The glory of Istanbul 2005 - We claimed the European Cup for the fifth time as we came from 3-0 down against the mighty AC Milan in Istanbul to triumph after a penalty shoot-out. Paolo Maldini scored before Hernan Crespo bagged a brace, with the reds having a strong penalty claim for handball turned down as well as losing Harry Kewell to injury half-way through the first period. The fans and team inspired each other in the second half as we began our comeback through skipper Steven Gerrard, whose goal was the only header of that season’s victorious European campaign. He was our keeper 1988 – Belgian goalie Simon Mignolet was born in Sint-Truiden. He signed from Sunderland for £9m in June 2013, playing 204 times, but only managing to keep 65 clean sheets, moving on Club Brugge for an initial reported £6.4m in August 2019. Dirk’s treble 2011 – Luis Suárez dazzled as Dirk Kuyt scored a remarkable close-distance hat-trick as we beat Manchester United 3-1 at Anfield, two days after boss Kenny Dalglish’s sixtieth birthday. Another treble for Gordon 1934 - Our best ever win on this day came when Gordon Hodgson netted a hat-trick in a 6-2 home League win over Middlesbrough, the fourteenth of his seventeen for the club. Sam English grabbed a brace, with Harold Taylor also on target and forward Tosh Johnson making his reds bow on the day he signed. Benny Yorston struck two of his five goals against the reds. Derby joy 1973 - Emlyn Hughes struck a brace in the final eight minutes to hand us a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. This helped give us the momentum to claim the League title that season, our first for seven

Clinching the title 1990 - We secured our eighteenth and most recent League title, beating Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Anfield thanks to an Ian Rush strike and a John Barnes penalty, after Roy Wegerle had put the visitors in front. Recent reserves keeper Paul Harrison was our mascot that day! UEFA Cup glory 1976 - Jimmy Case became our first substitute to score in a cup final as we beat Club Brugge 3-2 at Anfield in the first leg of the UEFA Cup Final, despite being 2-0 down inside the first quarter of an hour thanks to strikes from Raoul Lambert and Julien Cools. Yanks in 2007 - Liverpool FC announced that George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks now owned 98.6% of the club’s shares and intended to compulsorily acquire the remaining shares. Chief Executive Rick Parry said, “The incredibly high level of acceptance of the offer shows shareholders have faith in the vision outlined for the club by George Gillett and Tom Hicks.” The two Americans remained in control until October 2010. We’re all on our way to Wembley 1965 - We beat Chelsea 2-0 in a Villa Park Semi-final en route to our first ever FA Cup triumph. John Mortimore had a goal disallowed for the

The start of another treble 2001 - We won the Worthington Cup in the first domestic final to be played outside England, at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. We beat Birmingham City 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 to secure Gérard Houllier's first trophy. Who could forget witnessing Jamie Carragher striding forward to bury our fifth spot-kick, before Sander Westerveld saved the decisive penalty from future Blue Andrew Johnson? Robbie Fowler had opened the scoring, before a late Darren Purse penalty took the game into extra time. On the same day, future red Ragnar Klavan played for

Taylor out 1959 - Phil Taylor resigned as Manager, paving the way for the arrival of Bill Shankly the following month. He had made 345 appearances as right-half before and after the war, netting 34 times and winning one League title, and captaining the side. He joined the coaching staff when he retired from playing in 1954, and became Manager two years later, staying in the job for three years. However, he has the unhappy distinction of being the only reds boss never to manage the side in the top flight. He said, “The strain of it all has made me very tired at times and I decided, great as i

Ten of the best 1896 - We registered our all-time record League victory. George Allan scored four and Malcolm McVean grabbed a hat-trick in our 10-1 Second Division win over Rotherham Town at Anfield. Jimmy Ross added a brace, with Frank Becton also on the scoresheet. Unfortunately, only 2,000 supporters were present that day. Beating the Mancs at last 2006 - Peter Crouch headed the only goal of the game as we beat Manchester United in an FA Cup tie for the first time in 85 years, in our Fifth Round fixture at Anfield. We always win in Rome 2001 - Michael Owen scored twice at the Stadio Olimpico to give us a 2-0 victory over Roma in the UEFA Cup Fourth Round – cue several songs! His second was our 200th goal since Gérard Houllier took sole control. Into the final 1983 - Despite losing 1-0 on the night at Burnley, we still progressed to our third straight League Cup Final, 3-1 on aggregate. This is one of six defeats we have suffered in our fourteen matches on this day in history. 1995 - We were heading to the League Cup Final after beating Crystal Palace thanks to a last-minute Robbie Fowler goal

He left the backroom staff in the summer of 2004 for a full-time post with England, before joining Bolton Wanderers, but returned to Anfield in May 2008 as Assistant Manager, staying in that role until June 2011. Champions of the world 2019 – Roberto Firmino struck the only goal of the FIFA Club World Cup Final in Qatar as we beat Flamengo 1-0 after extra time. I would also like to express my gratitude to David Moores, Rick Parry and the board because they have all been very supportive of what we are trying to do. I would like to thank my backroom staff because you don’t win things just like that. Above all I would like to thank th
