    Birth of the legend 1913 - Bill Shankly was born in Glenbuck, Ayrshire. He was the ninth of ten children, and the youngest of five boys. Words cannot fully explain his importance to the history of Liverpool Football Club. However, his honours as reds boss between December 1959 and July 1974 included three League titles, two FA Cups, UEFA Cup and the Second Division championship. 1936 - Centre-half John Nicholson was born in Liverpool. He signed as a professional in January 1957, but only made one senior appearance before joining Port Vale in August 1961, playing over 200 games for them.

    Mixed fortunes for Mark 1963 - Mark Wright was born in Dorchester. He was Graeme Souness’ first signing as Manager, arriving from Derby County for £2.2m in July 1991, and notched nine times in 210 reds appearances, the most memorable coming when he lifted the FA Cup at Wembley in 1992. 1998 - A sadder milestone for Mark, as his contract with the reds came to end and he was forced to retire from football due to injury.     Luis the champion 2011 – Luis Suárez was on target as Uruguay beat Paraguay 3-0 in the Copa América Final in Buenos Aires, with future red Sebastián Coates winning his fifth and last cap as a Nacional player. In comes David 2008 – Forward David N’Gog signed from Paris Saint-Germain for £1.5m. He struck nineteen times in 94 reds outings, although he only started on 41 of those occasions.     Happy birthdays 1938 - Legendary centre-forward ‘Sir’ Roger Hunt was born in Golborne, Lancashire. He netted 285 times in 492 reds games. His 245 League goals remain a club record, and he has the distinction of being the first red to win the World Cup while at Anfield. His club medal haul includes two League championships, FA Cup, Second Division title and FA Charity Shield. 1966 - Hunt bagged both goals as England beat France 2-0 in a World Cup Finals group game at Wembley, on his 28th birthday.     Cardiff glory once more 2006 - We claimed the FA Cup for the seventh time, in a game dubbed the ‘Gerrard Final’ after Steven Gerrard struck two stupendous shots. We went 2-0 down to West Ham United through a Jamie Carragher own goal followed by a Pepe Reina fumble that Dean Ashton profited from. Djibril Cissé gave us hope before half-time with Gerrard equalising after the break, his 24th goal in his 79th and final reds outing.
