Crazy Horse trots in 1967 – Emlyn Hughes signed from Blackpool for a club record £65,000, netting 49 times in 665 games. He helped us to claim two European Cups, four League titles, two UEFA Cups, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup and two FA Charity Shields before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers for £90,000 in August 1979. His greatest season was probably 1976/77 when he captained the side to within a whisker of a unique treble, as well as being voted the Football Writers’ Player of the Year. Sadly, he died in November 2004, aged just 57. In comes Raheem 2010 – Winger Raheem Sterling signed from

Carra’s 500 2008 - Jamie Carragher was applauded onto the pitch by a guard of honour before making his 500th appearance for the club, skippering the side to a 5-0 thumping of Luton Town in our FA Cup Third Round replay at Anfield. Steven Gerrard scored a hat-trick, including a swerving 30-yard strike to complete his treble, after Ryan Babel had opened the scoring on the stroke of half time. Sami Hyypiä also netted, with ex-red Don Hutchison among the visitors’ ranks. In comes Redders 1991 - Jamie Redknapp signed from Bournemouth for £350,000, going on to strike 41 times in 308 first-t

Michael’s European record 2002 - Michael Owen scored his fifteenth away goal in Europe, which remains a club record, as we beat Vitesse Arnhem 1-0 at their Gelredome in the Third Round of the UEFA Cup. Surprisingly, this was our first game in the Netherlands on a club ground, and our first win in the country. Beating the Gunners 2004 - Neil Mellor grabbed a dramatic last-gasp winner as we beat Arsenal 2-1, his first League strike. Xabi Alonso had opened the scoring with his first Anfield goal before Patrick Vieira rounded off a slick Arsenal move to equalise. Antonio Núñez came on as

Into the hot seat Both Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish made managerial debuts on this day in history. 1974 - Bob took charge of his first League game, a 2-1 win at Luton Town, with the goals coming from Tommy Smith and Steve Heighway. 1985 - King Kenny’s first reds game as boss brought a 2-0 defeat of Arsenal at Anfield, thanks to goals from Ronnie Whelan and Steve Nicol. European debut 1964 - We made our first appearance in European competition in the preliminary round of the European Cup. We won 5-0 at Icelandic champions Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur, with Gordon Wallace and Roge

Heading towards Istanbul 2005 - Luis García netted twice before Milan Baroš struck his 27th and final reds goal as we beat Bayer 04 Leverkusen 3-1 in the BayArena to reach the Quarter-finals of the Champions League 6-2 on aggregate. We were able to take our feet off the gas towards the end, as John Welsh made his Champions League debut and we ended the match with Antonio Núñez at right-back and Igor Bišcan alongside Welsh in the centre of defence, although Jacek Krzynówek grabbed a late consolation – cue “Rocking All Over The World”! Rafa was also able to replace Dietmar Hamann with Vladimír
