Happy birthday KHR 1965 - Karl-Heinz Riedle was born in Weiler. The German striker arrived from Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e.V. Dortmund for a £1.8m fee in July 1997, and struck fifteen times in 76 reds games, as well as having a positive influence on the young Michael Owen before joining Fulham for £200,000 in September 1999. 1900 – Full-back Jimmy Gray was born in Glasgow. The South African international signed from Transvaal in 1926 but only played one first-team game for the reds, a 2-1 home League defeat by Sheffield United in September 1928. Birth of the legend 1913 - Bill Shankly was born in Glenbuck, Ayrshire. He was the ninth of ten children, and the youngest of five boys. Words cannot fully explain his importance to the history of Liverpool Football Club. However, his honours as reds boss between December 1959 and July 1974 included three League titles, two FA Cups, UEFA Cup and the Second Division championship. 1936 - Centre-half John Nicholson was born in Liverpool. He signed as a professional in January 1957, but only made one senior appearance before joining Port Vale in August 1961, playing over 200 games for them.
