Philippe off the mark 2013 - Philippe Coutinho scored his first reds goal immediately after the break as we thumped Swansea City 5-0 at Anfield, after Steven Gerrard had put us in front from the spot before half-time after Luis Suárez was fouled. José Enrique struck his second and last reds goal with Suárez also scoring before Daniel Sturridge converted another penalty. Unfortunately, Fabio Borini dislocated his shoulder in this game. Matt the boss 1923 - Matt McQueen took charge of the reds for the first time as forward Dick Forshaw netted a hat-trick in a 3-0 home League win over Bl

Champagne Charlie 1953 - Graeme Souness was born in Edinburgh. He won five League titles, three European Cups, four League Cups and three FA Charity Shields after signing from Middlesbrough for £352,000 in January 1978. He moved to Sampdoria for £650,000 in June 1984 after 55 goals in 359 games. He returned to Anfield as Manager in April 1991, although his time as reds boss was considerably less successful, with just one FA Cup triumph before his departure in January 1994. 1990 - Keeper Péter Gulácsi was born in Budapest. He joined on loan from MTK Hungária in August 2007, signing on pe

Another super win 2005 - We fell behind to a goal from CSKA Moskva’s Velizar Dimitrov in Monaco, but a brace from substitute Djibril Cissé and a Luis García strike secured us the UEFA Super Cup for the third time, 3-1 after extra time, as we reached a century of goals under the stewardship of Rafael Benítez. The cup was lifted by stand-in skipper Jamie Carragher. Danny’s wonder goal 2006 - Daniel Agger scored his first reds goal, a superb long-range effort to level the scores in our 2-1 home defeat of West Ham United after Bobby Zamora had put the Hammers ahead in our fiftieth League

In comes Jocky 1977 - Alan Hansen signed from Partick Thistle for £100,000. He went on to make 620 reds appearances, netting fourteen times as he helped us to three European Cups, eight League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups and four FA Charity Shields. Final strikes 1996 - Ian Rush scored his 346th and final reds goal in a 2-2 draw at Manchester City, with our other strike being a Steve Lomas own goal, the hundredth time we had benefited to date in this way in the League, as City were relegated. We were actually two goals up before Uwe Rosler and Kit Symons struck for the home

Ged’s return 2002 - A famous night in Anfield history came as we defeated Roma 2-0 to qualify for the Quarter-finals of the Champions League in our first season in the current format of the competition. Jari Litmanen’s penalty and an Emile Heskey header ensured we did not miss the injured Michael Owen or suspended Didi Hamann. The night was made complete by the emotional return of Gérard Houllier to the dug-out after heart surgery. Another win in the North East 2006 - We won 3-1 at Newcastle United as we played with three centre-backs and two wing-backs for the first time under Rafael
