The glory of Istanbul 2005 - We claimed the European Cup for the fifth time as we came from 3-0 down against the mighty AC Milan in Istanbul to triumph after a penalty shoot-out. Paolo Maldini scored before Hernan Crespo bagged a brace, with the reds having a strong penalty claim for handball turned down as well as losing Harry Kewell to injury half-way through the first period. The fans and team inspired each other in the second half as we began our comeback through skipper Steven Gerrard, whose goal was the only header of that season’s victorious European campaign. Auf wiedersehen twice 1965 - We faced 1. FC Köln in a European Cup Third Round replay in Rotterdam after two goalless draws. This third game ended 2-2 after extra time, with Ian St. John and Roger Hunt on target. That meant that the tie was decided on a coin toss. Skipper Ron Yeats called tails but the first attempt landed upright in the mud, although the Germans claimed it was leaning towards heads! Fortunately, it came down the right way at the second attempt so we went through. 1971 - We drew 1-1 at Bayern München in the second leg of our Fairs Cup Fourth Round tie, with Ian Ross on tar

With five minutes remaining, “up popped the head of Ian St. John” to win the cup. 1980 - We played in the only FA Cup Semi-final to go to a third replay, which we unfortunately lost to Arsenal courtesy

UEFA Cup glory 1976 - Jimmy Case became our first substitute to score in a cup final as we beat Club Brugge 3-2 at Anfield in the first leg of the UEFA Cup Final, despite being 2-0 down inside the first quarter of an hour thanks to strikes from Raoul Lambert and Julien Cools.
