Off the mark 1959 - Winger Johnny Morrissey nabbed his first reds goal as we suffered a 2-1 Second Division defeat at Sheffield United when we conceded two penalties inside three minutes, both converted by Graham Shaw. 1928 - We also faced the Blades, losing our top-flight meeting at Anfield 2-1, with Dick Edmed nabbing our consolation. Scottish-born South African international left-back Jimmy Gray played his only reds game. Fred Tunstall bagged one of his eight goals past us, with Thomas Boyle also on target. Adam heads north 2014 - Adam Lallana signed from Southampton for an initial £23m, becoming our second most expensive signing to date. He has so far struck 22 times in 178 reds games, coming off the bench as we claimed the FIFA Club World Cup, while also being in the matchday squads as we claimed the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup last year, and playing an important role as we claimed our nineteenth League title last month. New bosses 1983 - Joe Fagan officially took over as Manager, the only Scouser to hold this position on a permanent basis to date. In his first season as b

Happy birthday Gary 1965 - Gary Ablett was born in Liverpool. He signed on at Anfield as a professional on his eighteenth birthday, going on to make 147 reds appearances, scoring just once – in only his second game. He helped us to two League titles, FA Cup and FA Charity Shield before being sold to Everton by Graeme Souness for £750,000 in January 1992, with whom he won a second FA Cup. He returned to the club in the summer of 2006 to take over as Reserve Team Manager, leading them to the national title in his second season, although he left at the end of the following campaign. The return of the king 2011 – Roy Hodgson left as Manager “by mutual consent”, with Kenny Dalglish resuming the hot seat on a caretaker basis. Hodgson had led us to just thirteen wins in 31 games, with the King restoring the club’s pride and ethos, although he was sacked in May 2012. Carra makes his debut 1997 - Jamie Carragher made his reds bow as a substitute for Rob Jones in our 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in a Coca-Cola Cup Fifth Round tie. Steve McManaman grabbed our consolation, while Stig Inge Bjørnebye was making his hundredth reds appearance. Departure of a striking sens

On our way to Wembley 1981 - We reached our second League Cup Final as a Kenny Dalglish goal was enough to secure a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield despite an equaliser from Kevin Reeves, one of his four goals past us, to ensure we progressed 2-1 on aggregate. He had made 345 appearances as right-half before and after the war, netting 34 times and winning one League title, and captaining the side. Debutants galore 1975 - Jimmy Case made his reds bow in our 3-1 home League win over Queens Park Rangers, when John Toshack netted a brace to add to a Kevin Keegan penalty, with Gerry Francis on target for the visitors. This was our final game of the season, as we ended up in second place behind Derby County. 1965 - Bill Shankly fielded a team of eleven reserves in our League match at Wolverhampton Wanderers, which came only five days before the FA Cup Final. John Sealey scored in his only reds appearance, with Geoff Strong and Alf Arrowsmith also on target as we won 3-1. Full-backs Ala

Stevie off but derby joy 2006 - Steven Gerrard was sent off at home to Everton for two quick-fire yellow cards before Phil Neville put us ahead at the end of the first half with a superb headed own goal from a corner. Luis García put us 2-0 up with a beautiful lob soon after the restart, our 500th home Premiership goal. Tim Cahill headed the visitors back into the game with one of his five goals against us, also their hundredth League goal in an Anfield derby. Substitute Andy van der Meyde was sent off for elbowing Xabi Alonso just five minutes after coming on before Harry Kewell rounded off

Mickey’s treble 1997 - Michael Owen scored his first reds hat-trick as we beat Grimsby Town 3-0 at Anfield in a League Cup Fourth Round tie. Oggy signs on 1977 - Steve Ogrizovic signed from Chesterfield for £70,000. He only made five first-team starts in five years at Anfield as understudy to Ray Clemence, sitting on the bench on a further 27 occasions. He had more luck at Coventry City, winning the FA Cup with them in 1987 and making more than 500 League appearances. Derby despair 1995 - Robbie Fowler netted our consolation very late on as we lost 2-1 at home to Everton throug

Have a rowdy birthday 1937 - Ron Yeats was born in Aberdeen. The giant centre-half played 454 times for the reds, netting sixteen times and captaining us to two League titles, our first FA Cup, the Second Division title and FA Charity Shield. He was one of Bill Shankly’s first and most inspired signings, arriving for just £30,000 from Dundee United in July 1961. He moved on to Tranmere Rovers in December 1971. Technicolor reds 1969 - Our 2-0 home win over West Ham United was the first game screened in colour by the BBC’s Match Of The Day. Chris Lawler and Bobby Graham scored the goals

Terry Mac signs on 1974 – Terry McDermott signed from Newcastle United for £175,000. He struck 81 times in 329 reds games, helping us to three European Cups, four League titles, two League Cups, UEFA Super Cup and two FA Charity Shields. In 1980 he became the first player to win both the PFA and Football Writers’ Player Of The Year Awards in the same season. He returned to St. James’ Park in September 1982. Red trebles 2004 - Milan Baroš grabbed his only reds treble, including two penalties, as we beat Crystal Palace 3-2 at Anfield. This remains our only hat-trick against the Eagles t
