    Happy birthday KHR 1965 - Karl-Heinz Riedle was born in Weiler. The German striker arrived from Ballspielverein Borussia 09 e.V. Dortmund for a £1.8m fee in July 1997, and struck fifteen times in 76 reds games, as well as having a positive influence on the young Michael Owen before joining Fulham for £200,000 in September 1999. 1900 – Full-back Jimmy Gray was born in Glasgow. The South African international signed from Transvaal in 1926 but only played one first-team game for the reds, a 2-1 home League defeat by Sheffield United in September 1928.     Happy birthdays 1974 - Stéphane Henchoz was born in Billens, Switzerland. He arrived for £3.5m from Blackburn Rovers in June 1999, and made a total of 205 appearances without scoring, forming a rock-solid partnership with Sami Hyypiä and helping us to claim five trophies in 2001 as well as another League Cup two years later.     Birth of the legend 1913 - Bill Shankly was born in Glenbuck, Ayrshire. He was the ninth of ten children, and the youngest of five boys. Words cannot fully explain his importance to the history of Liverpool Football Club. However, his honours as reds boss between December 1959 and July 1974 included three League titles, two FA Cups, UEFA Cup and the Second Division championship. 1936 - Centre-half John Nicholson was born in Liverpool. He signed as a professional in January 1957, but only made one senior appearance before joining Port Vale in August 1961, playing over 200 games for them.

    Ciao Rushie 1986 - Ian Rush signed for Juventus for £3.2m, but was shortly loaned back to the reds, before finally joining the ‘Old Lady’ the following summer. He started off brightly, netting six times in ten pre-season friendlies.     More Euro glory 2019 – We claimed the UEFA Super Cup for the fourth time, beating Chelsea 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out in Istanbul after our meeting ended 1-1 after ninety minutes, and 2-2 after extra time. Olivier Giroud scored the seventh of his eight goals past us to date in the first half, with a Sadio Mané brace either side of the full-time whistle putting us ahead.     Happy birthday Saint 1938 - Ian St. John was born in Motherwell. He joined from his hometown club in May 1961 for a then club record fee of £37,500. The Saint scored 118 goals in 425 games for the reds, including the winning goal in the 1965 FA Cup Final and also helped us to win two First Division titles, the Second Division and FA Charity Shield, before moving to South Africa in February 1971 to join Hellenic. 1988 – Former reserves centre-half Godwin Antwi was born in Kumasi in Ghana.     Thumping the blues 1955 - Perhaps our most memorable game on this day came when we triumphed 4-0 at Goodison Park in the FA Cup Fourth Round, at a time when we were a division below the Blues, having been relegated the previous season.
