    Happy birthday Mr. Kennedy 1954 - Alan Kennedy was born in Sunderland. He is best remembered for his winning strikes in two European Cup Finals, but also won five League titles, four League Cups and three FA Charity Shields after moving from Newcastle United for £330,000 in August 1978, making 359 appearances and notching twenty times before joining his hometown club for £100,000 in September 1985. 1911 - Frank O’Donnell was born in Buckhaven, Fife. He struck once in two Wartime appearances for the reds. He gained six Scotland caps as well as scoring for Preston North End in every round

Having overcome Saint-Étienne in the previous round, we won our Semi-final first leg 3-1 at Zürich, with two goals from Phil Neal, including a spot-kick, and a Steve Heighway strike after we had gone behind to an early penalty from Peter Risi.
