New defenders 1974 - Phil Neal signed from Northampton Town for £66,000. He made 650 reds appearances, netting 59 times while becoming our most decorated player of all time, including four European Cups, eight League titles, the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, four League Cups and four FA Charity Shields. 1996 - Jamie Carragher signed professional terms at Anfield. He made a total of 737 reds appearances before retiring in the summer of 2013, in a multitude of positions, and is ranked number two in the club’s all-time appearance holders list.
