Another treble for Gordon 1934 - Our best ever win on this day came when Gordon Hodgson netted a hat-trick in a 6-2 home League win over Middlesbrough, the fourteenth of his seventeen for the club. Sam English grabbed a brace, with Harold Taylor also on target and forward Tosh Johnson making his reds bow on the day he signed. Benny Yorston struck two of his five goals against the reds. Derby joy 1973 - Emlyn Hughes struck a brace in the final eight minutes to hand us a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. This helped give us the momentum to claim the League title that season, our first for seven

We always win in Wales 2003 - Goals from Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen handed us a 2-0 win over Manchester United as we won the Worthington Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium, to claim our seventh League Cup with Jerzy Dudek being named man of the match. John Arne Riise was playing in his hundredth reds game, while Milan Baroš suffered the rare indignity of coming on from the bench and then later himself being substituted. Happy birthdays 1994 - Lazar Marković was born in Čačak, Serbia. He signed from SL Benfica for £20m in July 2014, netting three times in 34 games before moving t

Happy birthdays 1937 - Right-half Gordon Milne was born in Preston. He played 282 times for us after signing for a club record £16,000 from Preston North End in August 1960, netting eighteen times and winning the League title twice, as well as the Second Division championship before joining Blackpool in May 1967. He also won fourteen England caps, and later successfully managed Coventry City and Leicester City. 1991 – Italian forward Fabio Borini was born in Bentivoglio. Cup final glory 1984 - Joe Fagan won his first trophy as reds boss as a Graeme Souness strike handed us the Milk Cup in a replay at Maine Road against Everton. 1902 - We also faced Everton with our friendly at Goodison ending goalless. Yanks in 2007 - Liverpool FC announced that George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks now owned 98.6% of the club’s shares and intended to compulsorily acquire the remaining shares. Chief Executive Rick Parry said, “The incredibly high level of acceptance of the offer shows shareholders have faith in the vision outlined for the club by George Gillett and Tom Hicks.” The two Americans remained in control until October 2010. We’re all on our way to Wembley 1965 - We beat Chelsea 2-0 in a Villa Park Semi-final en route to our first ever FA Cup triumph. John Mortimore had a goal disallowed for the

Wembley glory 1983 - We won our third consecutive League Cup, 2-1. Norman Whiteside opened the scoring for Manchester United with the first of his four goals past us before Alan Kennedy equalised at Wembley. The game went into extra time, with our fitness proving the greater as Frank Stapleton had to come back into defence with Gordon McQueen going up front, due to cramp. Ronnie Whelan, who had scored twice in the previous season’s Final, won the game for us with a beautifully curled shot past the helpless Gary Bailey. Bob Paisley was sent up to lift the trophy in his final season as boss.

Stevie off but derby joy 2006 - Steven Gerrard was sent off at home to Everton for two quick-fire yellow cards before Phil Neville put us ahead at the end of the first half with a superb headed own goal from a corner. Luis García put us 2-0 up with a beautiful lob soon after the restart, our 500th home Premiership goal. Tim Cahill headed the visitors back into the game with one of his five goals against us, also their hundredth League goal in an Anfield derby. Substitute Andy van der Meyde was sent off for elbowing Xabi Alonso just five minutes after coming on before Harry Kewell rounded off

Transfer deadline day drama 2011 – We broke our record transfer twice in the same day, first when Luis Suárez arrived from Ajax for a fee of £22.8m. We then signed Andy Carroll for a British record £35m, with Fernando Torres then joining Chelsea for £50m, another British record. On the same day, left-back Paul Konchesky joined Nottingham Forest on loan while young midfielder Conor Thomas arrived from Coventry City on a temporary basis, although the move was not made permanent. Meanwhile, El-Hadji Diouf joined Rangers on loan from Blackburn Rovers and Daniel Sturridge joined Bolton Wande

Yossi at the treble 2008 - Yossi Benayoun scored a hat-trick as we twice came from behind to beat non-League Havant & Waterlooville 5-2 in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Anfield. We first went behind through Richard Pacquette, before Lucas Leiva became the first Brazilian to score for the club. A Martin Škrtel own goal put the Blue Square South side ahead again before the Israeli’s treble. Peter Crouch added a gloss to proceedings with a last-minute strike. Xabi from his own half 2006 - Jan Kromkamp made his reds bow in a thrilling FA Cup Third Round tie at Luton Town. We took the lead through Steven Gerrard before falling 3-1 behind with Djibril Cissé having a penalty saved with the score at 2-1. Florent Sinama-Pongolle bagged a brace with his first goal being our thirteenth from a substitute that season, a new club record. Xabi Alonso also struck twice, with our final goal being an outrageous strike from inside his own half, with the keeper making his way back from a corner. Scott Carson made his ninth and final reds appearance in this game.

Divock at the treble 2015 – Forward Divock Origi bagged a hat-trick, his first reds goals, as we thumped Southampton 6-1 in a League Cup Fifth Round tie on the south coast. Future red Sadio Mané had given the home side a very early lead but a brace from Daniel Sturridge put us ahead. Jordon Ibe was also on target after the break as we headed towards Wembley. 2018 – Divock Origi pounced on a Jordan Pickford error to hand us victory in the Anfield derby in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, having already hit the crossbar from close range late in the game. Happy birthday Gary 1965 - Gary Ablett was born in Liverpool. He signed on at Anfield as a professional on his eighteenth birthday, going on to make 147 reds appearances, scoring just once – in only his second game. He helped us to two League titles, FA Cup and FA Charity Shield before being sold to Everton by Graeme Souness for £750,000 in January 1992, with whom he won a second FA Cup. He returned to the club in the summer of 2006 to take over as Reserve Team Manager, leading them to the national title in his second season, although he left at the end of the following campaign. Le Boss taken ill 2001 - Gérard Houllier was admitted to Broadgreen Hospital with chest pains during our Anfield fixture with Leeds United. Thankfully he went on to make a full recovery. Happy birthday Ronnie 1963 - Ronnie Rosenthal was born in Haifa. The Israeli forward made an instant impact on his arrival on loan in March 1990, with Kenny Dalglish saying, “Ronnie gave us the momentum. It was that which helped us to win the Championship.” He signed from Standard de Liège permanently that June for £1m and scored a total of 22 times in 97 reds games before joining Tottenham Hotspur for £250,000 after four years at Anfield. Lawler’s night 1978 - A testimonial match for full-back Chris Lawler was staged with the reds defeating Swansea City 3-2 at Anfield, thanks to a Ke

A legend gets off the mark 1981 - Ian Rush scored his first two reds League goals to help us to a 3-0 home win over Leeds United, along with a Trevor Cherry own goal. 1925 - We also faced Leeds, with Fred Baron netting in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Full-back James Garner played his fifth and final reds game. Russell Wainscott struck one of his five goals against the reds in this match. Happy birthday 1991 - Xherdan Shaqiri was born in Gjilan, then part of SFR Yugoslavia, and now in Kosovo. He signed from relegated Stoke City last July for £12.85m, so far netting eight times in 42 appear

New defenders 1974 - Phil Neal signed from Northampton Town for £66,000. He made 650 reds appearances, netting 59 times while becoming our most decorated player of all time, including four European Cups, eight League titles, the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, four League Cups and four FA Charity Shields. 1996 - Jamie Carragher signed professional terms at Anfield. Igor Bišcan wrapped it up 2004 - We won a game of two halves at Craven Cottage. The reds were dismal in a first half that saw a Luis Boa Morte brace put Fulham 2-0 up. We drew level after the break thanks to a Zat Knight own goal and a close-range Milan Baroš strike, before Josemi was sent off following a second caution. Xabi Alonso, who had replaced the hapless Salif Diao at half time, then bagged his first reds goal, with the 4-2 win completed by Igor Bišcan’s glorious strike, his first League goal. All together now, “2-0 down, 4-2 up, Igor Bišcan wrapped it up.” First win in the Ukra
