Off the mark 2018 – Dutch centre-half Virgil van Dijk scored on his reds bow as we beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup Third Round at Anfield. James Milner opened the scoring from the spot after a foul on Adam Lallana, with Gylfi Sigurdsson netting the most recent of his four goals past us to level the scores. Our new record signing nodded in the winner late on to send the crowd into raptures. Happy birthdays 1957 - David Fairclough was born in Liverpool. He signed pro terms in January 1974, bagging 55 goals in 154 reds games, two-fifths of which were from off the bench. The bionic carrot

Willkommen Jürgen 2015 - Jürgen Klopp was appointed reds boss following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers. He has so far led us to UEFA Champions League glory in Madrid, our first League title in thirty years, FIFA Club World cup and UEFA Super Cup as well as three other cup finals, generating a great rapport with the crowd. On the same day, the departures of Chris Davies, Glen Driscoll and Sean O’Driscoll from the backroom staff were all announced. All sitting comfortably 1994 - Neil Ruddock scored the first goal in front of the new all-seater Kop, as we beat Aston Villa 3-2, with Robbi

Aldo’s record 1987 - John Aldridge scored in his tenth consecutive League game, including one from the previous season, netting from the spot as we beat Queens Park Rangers 4-0 at Anfield. Craig Johnston had a goal chalked off but also scored, while John Barnes bagged a brace. This goalscoring run remains a joint top-flight record, for any club, and took him to twelve goals already that season. Ex-red Ian Rush was watching in the crowd. Later that day, Kenny Dalglish, Peter Robinson and Chairman John Smith met with Ray Houghton and his wife at a Southport restaurant to agree to his £825

Off the bench for the first time 1965 - Utility player Geoff Strong became our first ever League substitute, netting after coming on for full-back Chris Lawler in our 1-1 top-flight draw at home to West Ham United. Gerry Byrne made his 200th League appearance in this fixture while Geoff Hurst bagged on of his nine strikes against us. A win at Goodison 2001 - After Kevin Campbell put the home side ahead, the last of his four goals against the reds, we stormed back to beat Everton 3-1, thanks to a Steven Gerrard pile-driver, a Michael Owen penalty and a John Arne Riise strike that inspi

Clinching the title 1990 - We secured our eighteenth and most recent League title, beating Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Anfield thanks to an Ian Rush strike and a John Barnes penalty, after Roy Wegerle had put the visitors in front. Recent reserves keeper Paul Harrison was our mascot that day! UEFA Cup glory 1976 - Jimmy Case became our first substitute to score in a cup final as we beat Club Brugge 3-2 at Anfield in the first leg of the UEFA Cup Final, despite being 2-0 down inside the first quarter of an hour thanks to strikes from Raoul Lambert and Julien Cools. A win in the fizzy cup 1995 - Steve McManaman was the star of the show as we won our sixth League Cup, when it was known as the Coca Cola Cup, by defeating First Division Bolton Wanderers 2-1 at Wembley. Macca got both our goals, with Alan Thompson grabbing a late consolation for the Trotters. Future red Jason McAteer was on the losing side that day, while John Barnes was playing his 300th reds game. 2005 - We defeated Bolton again, with Igor Bišcan heading the only goal of the game at Anfield late on from a Djimi Traoré cross, his third and final reds goal. 1926 - We also beat Wander
