Off the mark 2018 – Dutch centre-half Virgil van Dijk scored on his reds bow as we beat Everton 2-1 in the FA Cup Third Round at Anfield. James Milner opened the scoring from the spot after a foul on Adam Lallana, with Gylfi Sigurdsson netting the most recent of his four goals past us to level the scores. Our new record signing nodded in the winner late on to send the crowd into raptures. Happy birthdays 1957 - David Fairclough was born in Liverpool. He signed pro terms in January 1974, bagging 55 goals in 154 reds games, two-fifths of which were from off the bench. The bionic carrot

400 for the reds 2002 - Michael Owen scored a brace that included our 400th Premiership goal at Anfield as we beat West Ham United 2-0. Le Boss released 2001 - Gérard Houllier was released from Broadgreen Hospital after heart surgery. On the same day we were drawn with Barcelona, Galatasaray and Roma for the second group phase of the Champions League. Trent’s century 2019 – Right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold reached a century of reds games as we left it late to win 2-1 at Aston Villa. Trézéguet put the home side in front after twenty minutes. Andy Robertson headed in a late leve

A Norwegian nightmare 1974 - We secured our record victory, thumping Norwegians Strømsgodset 11-0 at Anfield in our opening game of that season’s European Cup Winners’ Cup campaign. Midfielder Brian Hall was the only outfield player not to score, with Phil’s Boersma and Thompson grabbing a brace apiece. For the record, our other goals that day came from an Alec Lindsay penalty, Steve Heighway, Peter Cormack, Emlyn Hughes, Tommy Smith, Ian Callaghan and Ray Kennedy. Debuting at the back 1988 - Steve Staunton made his reds bow in a 1-1 home draw with Tottenham Hotspur, when Peter Beards

Wembley glory 1983 - We won our third consecutive League Cup, 2-1. Norman Whiteside opened the scoring for Manchester United with the first of his four goals past us before Alan Kennedy equalised at Wembley. The game went into extra time, with our fitness proving the greater as Frank Stapleton had to come back into defence with Gordon McQueen going up front, due to cramp. Ronnie Whelan, who had scored twice in the previous season’s Final, won the game for us with a beautifully curled shot past the helpless Gary Bailey. Bob Paisley was sent up to lift the trophy in his final season as boss.

Wembley derby joy 2012 - We came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley in our FA Cup Semi-final with keeper Brad Jones becoming the first reds player to make his first four appearances for the club in four different competitions. Nikica Jelavić pounced on hesitation in the centre of our defence to give the Blues a half-time lead. However, Luis Suárez then capitalised on a short back-pass by Sylvain Distin, with Andy Carroll heading in a late winner to send us through to our fourteenth Final. European semi-finals We have played three European Semi-finals on this day over the years
