    God off the mark 1993 - Robbie Fowler scored on his reds debut as we beat Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage in our League Cup Second Round first leg match. Ian Rush and Nigel Clough had put us two ahead at the break, with Sean Farrell pulling a goal back before God struck. Happy birthday Harry 1978 - Harry Kewell was born in Smithfield in Australia. He signed from Leeds United for £5m in July 2003, but his time at Anfield was somewhat disappointing due to a series of niggling injuries, as he bagged sixteen goals in 139 reds games before moving to Galatasaray as his contract expired in July

    George born 1891 - Reds boss George Kay was born in Manchester. He arrived at Anfield in August 1936 and led us to our first League title in 24 years in 1947, and the FA Cup Final three years later. He was forced to retire due to illness in February 1951, and sadly died just three years later. Amongst the players who joined the club during his tenure were the great Billy Liddell and Bob Paisley.     Happy birthdays 1972 - Markus Babbel was born in Munich. He arrived on a free transfer from Bayern München in June 2000 and was a vital member of the treble-winning team bagging six goals in 73 games, until he was struck down by Guillain-Barré syndrome, moving to VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer in July 2004 after a loan spell at Blackburn Rovers. 1998 – Irish centre-half Conor Masterson was born in Celbridge, signing on from Lucan United for £900,000 on his sixteenth birthday.     The greatest performance ever 1988 - We trounced Nottingham Forest 5-0, just four days after we had beaten them 2-1 in the FA Cup Semi-final. It was a stunning display that the legendary Tom Finney described as “the greatest performance ever”. John Aldridge bagged a brace, to add to goals from Ray Houghton, Gary Gillespie and Peter Beardsley.     Derby joy 2008 - We bounced back from defeat at Old Trafford by beating Everton 1-0 at Anfield. Pepe Reina kept his 54th clean sheet in his hundredth League game, a new club record to beat Ray Clemence on 53. Fernando Torres scored our hundredth goal of the season early on, notching in his sixth consecutive League home game, equalling a club record, while the club reached 3,000 League points. 1940 - Berry Nieuwenhuys grabbed a brace with Billy Liddell also on the scoresheet as we won a Wartime League match 3-1 at Everton.     Welcome to Brucie 1981 - Bruce Grobbelaar signed for £250,000 from Vancouver Whitecaps. Our eccentric keeper played 628 times for the reds, helping us to six League titles, one European Cup, three FA Cups, three League Cups, three FA Charity Shields and Screen Sport Super Cup. Four for Mo 2018 – Mohamed Salah struck four times as we thumped Watford 5-0 at Anfield, which included his first hat-trick for the club. Roberto Firmino was also on target.
