    22nd August

Jan the man 1984 - Midfield maestro Jan Mølby signed from Ajax for £225,000. He struck 61 times in 292 reds appearances, including a remarkable forty of his 42 attempted spot-kicks. He won three League titles and two FA Cups during his time at Anfield before joining Swansea City as Player/Manager on a free transfer in February 1996. Match of the Day 1964 - Our 3-2 win over Arsenal at Anfield was the first game ever to be screened on the BBC’s new “Match Of The Day” show. Phil Chisnall was the first player to kick a ball on MOTD, knocking the kick-off to Gordon Wallace, who grabbed a b

Clinching the title 1964 - Our biggest win on this day came when we beat Arsenal 5-0, with goals from Ian St. John, Alf Arrowsmith, Roger Hunt and a brace from Peter Thompson. This was enough to hand us our sixth League title, and first under Shanks. BBC’s Panorama programme filmed the Kop at the game, to report on this “extraordinary cultural phenomenon”. The game was an entertaining affair, with Tommy Lawrence saving a George Eastham penalty after a handball by Ron Yeats with the score at 1-0, and Ian Callaghan having a spot-kick saved by ex-reds keeper, and Gunners captain for the day, Ji
  3. Dan the man 2013 - Daniel Sturridge signed from Chelsea for £12m. He scored an impressive 67 times in 160 reds games, although most of these came from off the bench in later years. He moved on to Trabzonspor in August 2019. Souey the skipper 1982 - Graeme Souness captained Liverpool for the first time, leading us to an impressive 4-0 win at John Toshack’s Swansea City in the Third Round of the FA Cup. Phil Thompson had been stripped of the captaincy following our Boxing Day defeat to Manchester City that left the reds twelfth in the table. Alan Hansen scored in his 200th reds game wit

Happy birthday King Kenny 1951 - Kenny Dalglish was born in Dalmarnack, Glasgow. He signed from Celtic for £440,000 in August 1977 and bagged 172 goals in 515 games, helping us to countless honours, both as a player for which he is fêted by many as the finest ever on the pitch, and later in two spells as Manager. His greatest moments as a player include scoring the goals that clinched the European Cup at Wembley in 1978, and the first half of a League and FA Cup double at Stamford Bridge eight years later, while his efforts in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster ensure he retains an e
  5. Will

    25th February

The start of another treble 2001 - We won the Worthington Cup in the first domestic final to be played outside England, at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. We beat Birmingham City 5-4 on penalties after the match had ended 1-1 to secure Gérard Houllier's first trophy. Who could forget witnessing Jamie Carragher striding forward to bury our fifth spot-kick, before Sander Westerveld saved the decisive penalty from future Blue Andrew Johnson? Robbie Fowler had opened the scoring, before a late Darren Purse penalty took the game into extra time. On the same day, future red Ragnar Klavan played for
