Milan the European champion 2002 - Milan Baroš featured for the Czech Republic Under 21’s as they clinched the European Championships against France in Switzerland. He only played for the first 45 minutes, with the Czechs winning the tournament in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless match. 1997 - He bagged a brace for the Under-15’s as they thumped Hungary 5-1 in a friendly in Ostrozska Nova Ves. On target for England 1976 - Phil Thompson scored the winner for England, his only goal for his country, as they beat Italy 3-2 in the US Bicentenary Tournament in New York. Future reds co

Our first League Cup 1981 - We claimed our first League Cup by beating West Ham United 2-1 in a Villa Park replay. Paul Goddard opened the scoring for the Hammers before Kenny Dalglish equalised with a glorious volley, to complete his record of scoring in every round. Alan Hansen was the unlikely match-winner, with a deflected header from a corner after half an hour. Ian Rush made only his second ever reds appearance in this game as veteran winger Steve Heighway had failed a late fitness test. This was the first time that the winners received medals, rather than tankards! Reds honoured

Ten of the best 1896 - We registered our all-time record League victory. George Allan scored four and Malcolm McVean grabbed a hat-trick in our 10-1 Second Division win over Rotherham Town at Anfield. Jimmy Ross added a brace, with Frank Becton also on the scoresheet. Unfortunately, only 2,000 supporters were present that day. Beating the Mancs at last 2006 - Peter Crouch headed the only goal of the game as we beat Manchester United in an FA Cup tie for the first time in 85 years, in our Fifth Round fixture at Anfield. United substitute Alan Smith broke his leg in a challenge with Joh

Happy birthday King Kenny 1951 - Kenny Dalglish was born in Dalmarnack, Glasgow. He signed from Celtic for £440,000 in August 1977 and bagged 172 goals in 515 games, helping us to countless honours, both as a player for which he is fêted by many as the finest ever on the pitch, and later in two spells as Manager. His greatest moments as a player include scoring the goals that clinched the European Cup at Wembley in 1978, and the first half of a League and FA Cup double at Stamford Bridge eight years later, while his efforts in the aftermath of the Hillsborough disaster ensure he retains an e

Supersub’s night 1977 - One of Anfield’s greatest ever nights took place as ‘les verts’ of Saint-Étienne arrived with a 1-0 first-leg lead in the European Cup Quarter-final. We eventually won 3-1 on the night, with David Fairclough grabbing the crucial third after Kevin Keegan’s early speculative long-distance strike from a corner had been cancelled out by Dominique Bathenay’s second-half thirty-yard thunderbolt. Ray Kennedy gave us the lead on the night, but we still trailed on aggregate before Supersub’s late winner. 1983 - We beat Widzew Lódz 3-2 in L4 at the same stage, with Ian Rus

Stevie at the treble 2010 - Steven Gerrard scored a second-half hat-trick as we came from behind to beat SSC Napoli 3-1 in our UEFA Europa League group game at Anfield, only the second reds substitute to net a treble, which included a penalty. Ezequiel Lavezzi put the visitors ahead, who included ex-red Andrea Dossena in their ranks. Five thousand goals 1990 - Ian Rush’s second goal in our 3-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur was our 5,000th goal in top-flight League football. Peter Beardsley also netted for the reds, having come on in place of John Barnes early in the first half. Bruce Grobb

Nice one Cyril 1920 - Forward Cyril Done was born in Liverpool. He signed from Bootle Boys Brigade in January 1938 and struck 37 times in 110 reds games, helping us to the League title in 1947 and the FA Cup Final three years later. He moved to Tranmere Rovers in May 1952, scoring nearly a century of goals for them and Port Vale. Anfield goalkeeping debutants Two reds custodians have made their first-team debuts in top-flight fixtures at Anfield on this day. 1950 - Russell Crossley made his reds bow in our goalless draw with Middlesbrough. 1933 - We also faced Boro, when Sam Engli
