Crystal smashed 1989 - Eight outfield players scored, a League record, in our 9-0 humiliation of Crystal Palace at Anfield. John Aldridge came off the bench to score a penalty with his first kick, in his final reds game. Glenn Hysén struck the first of his seven reds goals in this game. The birth of a great keeper 1940 - Tommy ‘The Flying Pig’ Lawrence was born in Dailly, Ayrshire. The legendary keeper signed professional terms in October 1957 and played 390 times for us, winning two League title medals and an FA Charity Shield as well as being a member of the 1965 FA Cup winning side. He left the club in November 1971 to join Tranmere Rovers. 1929 - Centre-forward Louis Bimpson was born in Rainford.
