Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Got into a discussion on twitter with Sir Bob @bobthered about whether 05 or 19 was the better. I have thoughts on this that I'll have to form before posting. Essentially - 19 LFC much better team05 Milan I argue better than 19 Barca 05 we had 45m to get it together19 we needed 4 goals and had away goals hanging over us 05 Milan were on another planet in the 1st half, 19 Barca weren't that great over 2 legs that's just a start. There really is no right answer but what do people think?

Nerik Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 I think 05 was better because we were being ripped to shreds in the 1st half. At HT I hoped that at best we could get a goal to have something to cheer about.
Conrad Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 057719 In that orderWe didn’t need a comeback in 77 unless you are talking about st etienne I guess which was amazing but not really a comeback like the other two
growler Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Don’t think you can compare games from different rounds. Chelsea 05, Dortmund or Barca - I’m sure there are other semi’s which have been crazy too.

downunder Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Personally I think it was our best Anfield game, we have had more dramatic wins, and closer ones but the performance and who we were against makes it better than all the others I can remember.
JRC Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 It was literally a comeback. We still needed 2 goals to win with less time left than on Tuesday. And St Etienne were very, very good.
Rusty Shackleford Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Nothing comes close to Istanbul. The quality of the Milan side was ridiculous and the team we had weren’t anywhere near their level. This Barcelona team are, a few players aside, just not as good as we are.

Looking back, they certainly had a fantastic side. I have no idea how we could compete.Istanbul is unparalleled for me.
Falconhoof Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 They could have been 5 up by half time. We were shocking in that first half.
Chewie Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 This is the AC Milan lineup that night.. it never ceases to amaze me how frightening they were on paper and in the first 45. Overall Barca 19 have 2 players who would walk into the Milan side (Messi / suarez) but on the whole that Milan lineup is simply stunning.. Gunga Din Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 05 still for me, because we had half a dozen good players surrounded by crap. that Milan side were one of the best sides of the last 40 years. Tuesday night was the best night at Anfield though, beats Chelsea 05 hands down
Sion Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I reckon Milan during the 00s are potentially the most over rated team in football history. They only won Serie A once in 10 years and were literally docked points for fixing refs. People have this romantic notion of them for some reason, but the team looks much better on paper than it was in reality.

scoose Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 Chelsea 05 was glorious but we rode our luck through some of it. Tuesday we destroyed one of the best sides in Europe f***ing battered them mate. they couldnt cope and we didnt even have the big lads playing up front. Pure bullied them

growler Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Has to be 05 thinking about it. It was the final for a start. Rafa’s first season. Smicer, traore, cisse, biscan, Le Tallec. Vs a who’s who of European football on the other team. And half time, we were dead and buried. Doesn’t take anything away from Barca - a stunning result where we said f*** you to the establishment. From the moment robbo ruffled Messi in first few minutes I had a feeling it was on. Seeing messi and Suarez standing around shaking their heads.... This team is potentially one of the greatest ever. That makes 05 even more storied.
_00_deathscar Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 (edited) The Barca come back was the best night at Anfield we've had I reckon. But when we got the first goal, I knew that we were going to give Barca a run for their money. When we got the second, I had no doubt we would win. That's partly because of just how bloody brilliant this team is. That Istanbul come back was a pretty awful team with a few good/world class players (37 points behind Chelsea...) against an absolutely star studded Milan lineup, who were three goals to the good and had ripped us apart in the first half, and had an absolutely amazing backline that would be hard to penetrate. Another thing is that while we had made it that far, we looked like a deer in headlights. The bulk of that Milan side was extremely experienced and had just won the bloody thing two years ago.
