That sounds like we HAVE to sell Gakpo to get a RW. So we either do that and have no cover for Isak at CF or we keep him and don’t have ANY right wingers. What a bunch of c****.

If he costs £100mm and we (stupidly) sell Gakpo for 70, then the potential upgrade - Barcola is younger, faster, hopefully different tricks) is worth it for the 30mm difference. But. RW, CM, RB and most importantly CF backup. We all know, but little or none of it will get done.

If we’re selling in June, then Bayern, Barca, RM, Dortmund, City might all have been interested. PSG maybe. I think he probably deserves another year, and I have no doubt about his ability. He’s a brilliant footballer, with a lack of physicality for this League and, for me, a lack of desire, grit. Isak is in a similar category, but he has shown desire previously, for Newcastle, so he’s more of a puzzle.

I’m not suggesting we sell him. Yet. I’m saying that if there was a real possibility that we could have gotten Rodgers and selling Wirtz was a route toward doing so, then there’s no reason (other than our innate incompetence) that it couldn’t have been done,

They’re two separate events, no? Sell Wirtz in June, get Rodgers in July. It’s all theoretical obviously, but there’d be plenty of teams who’d want Wirtz if we’d made it clear we wanted rid. We all know who they are.

Why don’t / didn’t we have the money to abandon Wirtz in preference for Rodgers? we could probably have sold Wirtz for £90m at least in this market, so a £20m or so difference.

Unless Gakpo insists on leaving, I'd tell him he is staying, unless Swipe is correct and it's a financial decision. In that case, surely we have to get a striker in on loan.

Perhaps so, but there’s not a single player on that team yesterday that would have gotten into Jurgen’s title winning side, maybe even Slot’s, and I’m including this version of Alisson and Virg in that. That’s a little worrying, surely? We have a huge rebuild, that one or two windows won’t solve, and definitely not under these owners and their utter lack of football structure above the manager.

We went 30 years without winning a League. Arsenal have just won their first in 20. Both of those teams were very very strong before they started those long barren runs. Our squad is so so weak compared to just a couple of years ago because of terrible decisions at the top - on contracts, foresight and signings.

I feel sorry for the manager. Should have had Barcola and one other in five weeks ago.

Trent was a wonderful footballer. Once. But he doesn’t play for us anymore, in the same way that Emre Can or Jon Flanagan don’t play for us anymore, and I spend the same amount of time thinking about them them all. If any of them come back, sound. I think there’s the same percentage chance that one of them will play for us again. I’d quite like Barcola to though. That’d be nice. And at least three other lads. But I’ve low confidence we’ll get any.
