Unless there’s already a deal in place or we’re signing frees (hint hint Nunez and Salah), surely that must be rare? Clubs would wait to see how a player does in the WC. A poor WC rarely really hurts value. A good to great one can skyrocket it

Frustrating in the build up at times, sure, but again, Salah absolutely LOVED playing with him. Go back and watch some of those Salah goals in the last couple of seasons Nunez was here and see how involved he is. He runs about, creates chances for himself or others. At the most basic level he occupies defenders, which is more than can be said of the current lot.

At 100k/week that’s 10.4m over 2 years. Who are we getting that’s better than Nunez for that? Bear in mind we paid 15m for a similar Chiesa punt for transfer fees alone, plus the wages he was on. You guys act like he didn’t score a bunch of goals here. And a few assists for that matter. His G/A for minutes played was decent. Problem was we wanted/expected more from him. We won’t this time - the idea is to buy him to replicate that - contributions. And some damn important ones at that.

In any case we need more players. Keep Jones and Elliott We need a proper winger or two. f*** knows how Isak is fitness wise, guess we’ll find out. Ekitike won’t be ready for a while. Salah is gone. And then outside that we have Gakpo and Rio. Adding Nunez or Nunez adjacent to the one big winger/forward or two, for the right fee/wages helps with the bodies.

He creates chances, some that he has no right to create, and given the amount he creates, he’ll still score a few. No one’s saying buy him for crazy money. If he’s free and roughly around the same wages as earlier (which was reasonable), and he’s a temporary stopgap as a not main striker, he’s fine. Basically in our Klopp 4-3-3, he was a perfectly good 4th striker and a great 5th striker (more 90+ min winners or something). The problem was that we expected him to be a lot more than that. Hes a useful main forward but not a good one.

Nunez on a free as cover is a good buy. Regardless of his finishing, if he can buy into the Iraola philosophy and not be shunned by the manager ala Slot, he is going to cause problems for defenders. Thats already a huge a step up from our forwards not running and giving defenders the time of their lives. There’s a reason Salah loved playing with Nunez.

I think Emery has a ceiling, although a good manager. I’m not sure what Iraola’s ceiling is. The dismissing of Alonso is mad - the guy was 90 minutes away from an unbeaten treble in Germany with a team not named Bayern Munich.

Elliot needs to be reintegrated somehow. He seemed to be happy enough as a squad player in an excellent team (of course he wished he played more but he wasn’t actively looking to move) until Slot was a c*** He’s homegrown, is a Liverpool fan, is happy as part of a larger squad, and makes meaningful contributions (and has done over the years). It’s unclear if they ever approached Alonso again, but I don’t buy that they don’t rate him or think he isn’t the right fit - given we got two players whom his system made look amazing, that we paid a pretty penny for!
