I don’t think it should just be premier league team thing. The premier league is interesting as it shows the power of collective bargaining. Anyway, I don’t know the exact mechanism you would use but I would effectively have a tax on revenue and on profit. I don’t think that you would need to trust a City. The incentives for everyone else to make sure enforcement procedures would be pretty high. The argument to Liverpool giving some of their shirt money to Hull is “Do you want to play football in this country or not?”. You’ve got me thinking again on the FA Cup. It should be a lovely boost for smaller teams but the way things are set up, it feels like too often drawing a big team is a lifeline. We can definitely do this differently. For a long time I have not been able to understand the doomerism around this City thing and people saying the league will do nothing although I appreciate it took ages. It’s not like I love the PL but they picked this fight. From the second they did that then it made no sense for cynicism to be the intelligent mode of thinking.
