I understand he's carrying an injury but I'm concerned about Agger, who I've always seen as likely to be our centre half for years to come.

Players of course have poor runs of form, but what worries me is that he seems to be struggling badly to cope with the physical side of the Premier League. He was absolutely dominated physically by a fairly inexperienced Kalinic yesterday and failed to win aerial ball after aerial ball putting us under massive pressure.

Kalinic was muscling him out of the way so easily that he was able to take one goal kick down on his chest; sometimes the ball was coming down from sky high and actually being allowed to bounce in our half or on a few occasions our penalty area because Agger couldn't get near the ball, causing absolute chaos at the back.

Its fine having a defender as classy on the ball as Agger is, but I'd go as far as to say he was targeted by Blackburn yesterday and visibly wilted under the bombardment. I recall him being more aggressive in the past which made up for him being a bit slight, but he appeared to accept he wasn't going to win the ball yesterday and his challenges later in the game were extremely weak. He looked like he was completely overwhelmed.

Think he needs to work on bulking up a bit because he's likely going to be playing against a striker of that type pretty much every week here.

Incidentally think that Kalinic might be a player in a better side and could be worth looking at as backup to Torres for next season. He is extremely strong, aggressive, able to play on his own and looks good technically as well. He fits the bill for the type of young striker I'd like us to sign.

I'm more concerned by the fact he can't put a large run of games together.

Really think we need two top quality centre backs in the summer. Would love to see us in for Shawcross who is dominant defensively and in attacking situations. Also someone like Kjaer who is powerful and quick.

Skrtel worries me, Carra isn't getting any younger and Agger can't be relied on to stay fit throughout the season.

f*** that.

"I have been having a few injections in my knees and have only really trained on a Friday, so it has been really tough.

"But I keep fit during the week and have done all right so far, so I hope that continues.

"I am fine for the games and the manager has been very understanding with me. I want to train more, but my knees won't let me at the moment.

"It is just a bit of tendinitis. Most players get it and Dave Watson, our physio, has been working very hard with me."

Yep, seems like a hot topic now Danny. Voiced my concerns in the Blackburn thread:

This. I've changed my mind on him now - we should have taken Milan's offer (with hindsight).

He's regressed (certainly, he isn't any or considerably better) since 2006-2007 as a player and he's injured a lot. Showing no real signs of improvement either in his play - heading in particular. I think he may have hit a wall.

Shame, he was a huge talent.

Skrtle has been in good form for the last couple of months, he was excellent against city

Agger defo seems to make at least one glaring mistake in most games now. Sometimes gets away with them.

I've also noticed the 'letting the ball bounce before dealing with it' thing. He's done that quite a bit lately.

And as has been said above, he's nowhere near in good enough form to justify his constant injuries either.

We still need to replace Sami. The Greek has looked good as he gives us what we're missing. A tough, uncompromising defender who's good in the air and relishes battles with aggressive opponents.

Ideally we'd get in two centre halves in the summer, but we'll see what we have to spend.

Yeah he was, been a lot better the last few weeks. Still not convinced on him though.

I suspect that because of Agger's injuries he's unable to do the strength work he needs. He seems skinny at the moment compared to previous seasons, and I suspect this is why.

He's managed Drogba well in the past, so he's definitely capable of the physical game, he just needs his injuries, whatever they are, to go away.

He's still the best all round defender we have in my eyes, and we play better when he's in the team.

Bruising to the knee. Should be ok for the next game I'd say.

www.lfc.tv

Daniel Agger underwent a scan on an injured knee today after leaving Anfield on crutches following the 2-1 win over Blackburn.

Doctors discovered severe bruising to the Dane's right knee, and he will now undergo treatment at Melwood.

A club spokesman said: "Daniel underwent a scan this morning which has shown severe bruising to the bone in his right knee. The knee is still very swollen and he will continue to receive treatment at Melwood this week."

Agger was one of several Liverpool players to pick up knocks during a physical encounter.

Fabio Aurelio strained his quadriceps, while Maxi Rodriguez was left with stud marks just below his chest.

I think the fact he's a ball playing centre back tends to see people over rate him. This is the time in his career he should be pushing on and he isn't. Whether that's injuries or just a lack of ability, I don't know.

We really really really need a top class centreback. Skrtel is an absolute liability. Agger as I said is injury prone and his ability is still questionable. Carra is ageing and The Greek is a great back-up, but he's not first choice material.

We're still feeling the loss of Sami so badly.

Yep. Look at Sunday.

Last twenty minutes malaise wouldn't have happened. There hoof would've been cut off instantly.

Me and a mate had a real melancholic moan over missing him last night.

He is one of many, he's a talented player who has suffered terribly with injury and playing in an ever changing back line hasn't helped any of them get form. He's been culpable on the injury side but he hasn't asked for them, we need to stick by him as there aren't many better around when fit and healthy. We need a core of 4 top class CB's IMO, he's worthy of one of those spots.
