I think that’s true. Rightly or wrongly, it’s not just a football matter but randomly geopolitics (which is what happens when you let some of the world’s richest countries own your cultural heritage, but we are where we are). He’s got to keep certain people sweet (to a certain extent). The smart move would be to back away now and let things unfold. Which I think they’ve done with their subsequent statement.

Yep. I think in the past we’ve been spoiled with players who are both fantastic footballers and fantastic finishers. He’s the latter, not the former.

Said exactly the same last night. He’s a right midfielder in the Beckham mould. Crossing not as good, but he has the pace, dynamism stamina and shooting threat to be an asset there. he isn’t a CM. Can’t pass through the lines.
