He signed from Ajax for a club record fee of up to €26.5m in January 2011 and bagged an impressive 82 goals in 133 dazzling reds outings. He helped us to claim the League Cup before joining Barcelona for a club record £75m in July 2014. Derby disappointments We have faced our nearest neighbours twice on this day in history, without tasting victory. 1995 - We were held to a goalless draw at Anfield in the Premiership, with ex-red David Burrows somewhat fortunate to stay on the pitch after hacking down Robbie Fowler having already been booked. 1981 - We lost 2-1 at Goodison in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup with substitute Jimmy Case netting our consolation, his 46th and final reds goal. Peter Eastoe netted the last of his four goals against the reds, with Imre Varadi also on target. Cup victory 2004 - A Bruno Cheyrou brace, his final reds goals, took us past Newcastle United in the FA Cup Fourth Round at a noisy Anfield, as we won 2-1 with Laurent Robert scoring for the visitors. Unfortunately, we went out to Portsmouth in the next round. 1987 - We also beat the Geordies in L4 with Paul Walsh and Ian Rush securing a 2-0 League victory as Alan Hansen played his 500th reds game while John Wark reached a century of outings for the club. 1959 - Fred Morris bagged a brace as we drew 2-2 with them in a friendly at Anfield. The Kop’s inspiration 1900 - The battle of Spion Kop took place, during the Boer War. It is from this battle, at which many British soldiers died including 320 Lancashire Fusiliers, that the Kop at Anfield, and several other grounds, gets its name. If you like Croatian players, we’ve got Bišcan at our club 2001 - Igor Bišcan scored his first reds goal as we thumped Crystal Palace 5-0 at Anfield to progress to the Worthington Cup Final, 6-2 on aggregate. Most recently 2021 – We lost 3-2 behind closed doors at Manchester United in an FA Cup Fourth Round tie, with Mohamed Salah bagging a brace. Mason Greenwood struck for the home side before Marcus Rashford netted one of his six past us to date, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a free-kick to knock us out. 2015 – We were held to a goalless draw at Anfield by Bolton Wanderers in another Fourth Round fixture, with future reds keeper Ádám Bogdán impressing in the visitors’ goal. We won the replay, making it as far as the Semi-final that season. Off the mark 1914 – Forward Bob McDougall scored on his reds debut, the only goal of the game at West Bromwich Albion, and his only strike for us. Forward Jimmy Nicholl made the first of his 59 appearances for the reds. 1920 - Left-half Tom Bromilow grabbed the first of his eleven reds goals as we won 3-0 at Bolton Wanderers, with Billy Lacey and Tom Miller also scoring. Red farewells 1999 – Steve Harkness and Jason McAteer both played their 139th and final reds games in our cruel 2-1 defeat at Manchester United in the FA Cup Fourth Round. Michael Owen gave us an early lead, but United struck twice in the dying minutes, through one of Dwight Yorke’s eight goals past us and Ole Gunnar Solskjær. 1948 - We also lost to United at the same stage, going down 3-0 at Goodison Park. John Morris struck one of his seven goals past us, with Jack Rowley bagging one of his six and Charlie Mitten netting one of his five past us. 1953 – Half-back Jack Heydon made his 67th and last appearance for the club in our 3-1 defeat at Portsmouth, with Bob Paisley netting for the reds. Peter Harris bagged one of his eight goals against the reds, with Jimmy Scoular and Jack Henderson also on target. Rush hangs up his boots 1996 - Ian Rush played his final game for Wales, featuring in their 3-0 friendly defeat by Italy in Terni. It was his 73rd cap, in which time he scored 28 times, a Welsh record. Future red Rigobert Song played for Cameroon on the same day as they drew 3-3 with Angola in an Africa Cup of Nations Finals group game in South Africa. Red births and death 1885 – Forward James Garside was born in West Gorton, Manchester. He signed from Accrington Stanley in March 1904, but only played five times without scoring before returning to Stanley in May 1906. 1889 – Keeper Augustus Beeby was born in Osmaston, Derbyshire. He joined the club in December 1908, but only made sixteen senior appearances before leaving for Manchester City in May 1911. 1909 - Forward Vic Wright was born in Bloxwich, Walsall. He struck 33 times in 85 reds games after signing from Rotherham United in March 1934. He moved on to Plymouth Argyle in June 1937. 1975 - Outside-left Albert Pearson died in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He bagged four goals in 51 reds games following his capture from Port Vale in March 1919. He was only a red for two years, before returning to the Valiants. Avoiding a shock 1970 - Ray Smith struck for Fourth Division Wrexham to hand the Welsh side an interval lead in our FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Anfield. Fortunately, Bobby Graham bagged a brace with Ian St. John also on target as we won 3-1, with ex-Robin Peter ‘Max’ Wall in the reds side. We went out at Watford in the Sixth Round that season. God signs on 1999 - Robbie Fowler signed a new four-year contract, worth around £30,000 per week. He said in his autobiography that this was “almost half what the papers said I was getting, not at all bad, though”. 2008 – Centre-half Andre Wisdom signed from Bradford City. He made 22 first-team appearances, netting on his debut at BSC Young Boys in September 2013. He left for Derby County for an initial £2m in July 2017. In comes Jordy 2007 - Young forward Jordy Brouwer signed from Ajax, having scored 28 times in the Dutch youth league the previous season. He stayed with the second string until joining RKC Waalwijk on loan in January 2009. On the same day, David Mannix’s contract was terminated by mutual consent, and he signed for Norwegian side Ham-Kam a few days later. Tosh on target at Wembley 1973 - John Toshack netted for Wales as they drew 1-1 with England in a World Cup qualifier. Fellow reds Ray Clemence, Emlyn Hughes and Kevin Keegan were in the home side that day. On their way 1994 - Paul Stewart joined Crystal Palace on loan. He bagged three goals in eighteen games while at Selhurst Park as they won the First Division title. 2003 - Abel Xavier joined Galatasaray on loan, just one week shy of a year after his £800,000 transfer from across Stanley Park. He left Anfield to join Leicester City for £400,000 in April 2009. 2014 – Centre-half Daniel Ayala joined Middlesbrough from Norwich City for £350,000 after a successful loan spell in the north east. On the same day, Jermaine Pennant was released by Stoke City. 2015 – Midfielder Lee Peltier left Huddersfield Town to join Cardiff City, after just twelve games in his second spell with the Terriers. 2018 – Javier Mascherano joined Hebei China Fortune from Barcelona after just one goal in 334 games for the Catalans. 2019 – Midfielder Alexis Mac Aliister joined Brighton & Hove Albion from Argentinos Juniors, going on to score twenty times in 112 games for the Seagulls. New centre opened 2000 - The Ian Frodsham Indoor Soccer Arena was opened by the Minister for Sport, Kate Hoey MP, marking the completion of the second phase of the club’s Academy. William’s last 1925 - Scottish left-winger Billy Chalmers played his second and final reds game in our 4-0 thumping of Bury in a top-flight fixture at Anfield. Danny Shone bagged a brace with Archie Rawlings and Jimmy Walsh also on the scoresheet. International bows 1998 - Brad Friedel won his 54th cap for the USA, and his first as a red, as they beat Sweden 1-0 in a friendly in Orlando. 2017 – Future red Luis Díaz made his debut for Colombia Under-20’s as they beat Brazil 1-0 in a South American Championships group game in Ecuador, with midfielder Allan on the losing side. 2013 – Ex-red Momo Sissoko featured as Mali lost 1-0 to Ghana in an Africa Cup of Nations Finals group game in South Africa. 2019 – Wataru Endō and Takumi Minamino played as Japan beat Vietnam 1-0 in their AFC Asian Cup Quarter-final in Dubai. On the same day, fellow future red Darwin Núñez featured for Uruguay Under-20’s as they lost 1-0 to Argentina in a South American Championships group game in Chile. Kolo Touré played three times for the Ivory Coasty in Africa Cup of Nations games on this day over the years. 2006 – Ivory Coast beat Libya 2-1 in a group game as they made it all the way to the Final that year. 2010 – Algeria won 3-2 after extra time in a Quarter-final in Angola. 2015 – He played in a 1-1 draw with Mali in a group game in Equatorial Guinea, with future red Naby Keïta featuring in Guinea’s 1-1 draw with Cameroon. On the same day, future red Ibrahima Konaté played for France Under-16’s in their 4-2 defeat by Turkey. 2018 – Rigobert Song took charge of Cameroon as they drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in the African Nations Championship in Morocco to finish bottom of their group. 2009 – Ronald Huth played for Paraguay as they lost 4-2 to Uruguay in a Sudamericano Sub-20 "Juventud de América" group game in Venezuela. Other reds games 2015 – Bolton Wanderers held us to a goalless draw in an FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Anfield. We made it as far as the Semi-final that season. 1976 – Substitute Roger Davies bagged the only goal of our visit to Derby County at the same stage. 1931 – We drew 1-1 at home to Aston Villa in a top-flight fixture, with Gordon Hodgson on target after Billy Walker had given the visitors a late lead with the last of his five goals past us. Uncle Roy the dad 1975 - Reds left-back Roy Evans and his wife Mary had their first child, Stephen.

Off to Istanbul 2005 - We headed towards our sixth European Cup Final after seeing Chelsea off in the Semi-final. Luis García converted the only goal of the tie four minutes into the second leg, with the referee clearly indicating that the ball had indeed crossed the line, despite Chelsea protests. The Anfield atmosphere remained white hot, with many supporters considering this to be the famous old ground’s greatest ever night as the reds held out for victory. Hearts were in mouths when six minutes of injury time were conjured up, especially when Eidur Gudjohnsen shot past the post deep into added-on time. Clinching the title twice 1986 - Kenny Dalglish completed the first leg of the double by scoring the only goal at Chelsea to win our sixteenth League title, in his first season as Player/Manager. Bruce Grobbelaar played his 210th consecutive League game – a run he could not continue as he was injured at the start of the following season. Future reds Nigel Spackman and David Speedie were both in the Chelsea side that afternoon, with their Chairman stating in his programme notes that “Liverpool will win the Championship over my dead body”. 1980 - We claimed our twelfth League title, and fourth in five years, beating Aston Villa 4-1 at Anfield, who we had beaten to win the title the season before. Israeli defender Avi Cohen put through his own net, and then scored his only reds goal. David Johnson bagged a brace, to add to a Noel Blake own goal. Reaching another Final 2022 – We won 3-2 at Villarreal to reach our third UEFA Champions League Final in five seasons, having already won the home leg 2-0. The tie was level at the break thanks to an early Boulaye Dia goal and a header from Francis Coquelin. However, Fabinho netted after an hour, his eleventh and final goal for the club, before Luis Díaz nodded in. Sadio Mané also scored, with the home side having Étienne Capoue dismissed late on. 2023 – Mohamed Salah bagged the only goal of Fulham’s visit to Anfield from the spot. Big day for Kevin 1971 - Kevin Keegan signed for £33,000 from Sc***horpe United. He went on to score exactly a century of goals in 323 reds games, helping to fire us to the European Cup, three League titles, two UEFA Cups and an FA Cup before moving to Hamburger SV for £500,000 in June 1977. 1977 - Kevin Keegan scored his hundredth and final reds goal as we beat Manchester United 1-0 at Anfield. 1947 - We also won by the only goal, when Albert Stubbins struck against United. 1941 - Cyril Done was on target as we drew a Wartime League fixture with United at Maine Road. After Hillsborough 1989 - Our first competitive fixture after the Hillsborough disaster was fittingly played across Stanley Park as Everton held us to a goalless League draw. The king honoured 2017 – It was announced that the Centenary Stand would be renamed the Kenny Dalglish Stand from the following season. Rafa’s 300 up 2009 – Yossi Benayoun opened the scoring against Newcastle United at Anfield, netting the 300th Premier League goal under Rafael Benítez. Dirk Kuyt netted before Lucas rounded off the scoring with the 200th reds goal by a substitute as we won 3-0. Joey Barton was sent off for a late challenge on Xabi Alonso, becoming the only visiting player to date to be sent off at Anfield with two different clubs in the Premier League. Birthday boys 1881 - Forward Joe Hewitt was born in Chester. He arrived from Sunderland for £150 in January 1904 and was top scorer as we won the title in 1906, netting a total of 74 goals in 164 reds games before joining Bolton Wanderers in August 1910. He also served the reds as a coach, handyman and finally press box attendant in over sixty years’ service. 1926 - Keeper Doug Rudham was born in Johannesburg. He played 66 times for the reds after signing from Johannesburg Rangers in August 1954. He returned to his native city to turn out for Johannesburg Ramblers in May 1960. 1948 - Tom Stanton was born in Glasgow. He turned pro at Anfield in 1965, but moved to Arsenal in September 1966 having failed to make the break-through, although he also did not play a senior game for the Gunners, later finding greatest success with Bristol Rovers. Last stands 1950 – Inside-left Willie Fagan bagged his 57th and final reds goal as we were beaten 3-2 at Anfield by Huddersfield Town to end the First Division season in seventh. Billy Liddell struck the other goal, with Vic Metcalfe nabbing one of his six past us. Albert Nightingale and Jeff Taylor also struck for the Terriers. 1961 - Inside-forward Alan Banks made his eighth and last reds appearance in our 3-1 defeat at Stoke City, with winger Johnny Morrissey featuring for the 37th and final time. Alan A’Court grabbed our consolation in a game originally postponed from Christmas. This was our final game of a season in which we finished third in the Second Division. Tony Bentley bagged a brace for the Potters, with Johnny King bagging the last of his five goals against us. 1930 - Left-half Tom Bromilow played his 375th and last reds game in a 1-0 top-flight loss at Blackburn Rovers as we ended the season in twelfth. Forward Harry Race also made his final appearance for the club, his 43rd outing. 1956 – We hosted Rovers in the Lancashire Senior Cup Final, with the match ending 4-4. After having used the reserves throughout the competition, the first team played, with Louis Bimpson, Alan Arnell, Dick White and Geoff Twentyman on target. We won the replay five months later to secure the trophy for the eighth time. A wee strike 1902 - Future reds forward Ronald ‘Wee’ Orr netted his only senior international goal on his debut for Scotland as they drew 2-2 with England in the British International Championships at Villa Park. Reds centre-back Alex Raisbeck also played for the Scots. Recent League fixtures 2003 - Ex-red Nicolas Anelka struck twice as we lost 2-1 to Manchester City in our final home game of the season, after Milan Baroš had given us the lead. These were the first of the Frenchman’s five goals past us. 2000 - Leicester City won at Anfield for the third season in a row, this time 2-0, as we just missed out on Champions League qualification that year. Tony Cottee nabbed the last of his eight strikes against the reds with Phil Gilchrist also on target while Pegguy Arphexad impressed Gérard Houllier in goal. Signing off from the spot 1998 - John Aldridge scored twice, including a penalty, in his last senior game as Tranmere Rovers beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Prenton Park. He had bagged 174 goals in 294 games for the Wirral side. 1980 - Bruce Grobbelaar converted a spot-kick for Crewe Alexandra in his last ever game for them as they beat York City 2-0 at Gresty Road, having told his opposite number where he was going to place it! Youngsters on target 1994 - Jamie Carragher scored for England Under-16’s as they drew 2-2 with the Ukraine in the Quarter-final of the European Championships in Dublin. Unfortunately, England lost 5-4 on penalties. 2001 – Future reds Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle both netted braces as France Under-16’s won 4-0 at St. James’ Park in the Semi-final of the same tournament. John Welsh was sent off for England with future red Glen Johnson also playing. Meanwhile, future red Fernando Torres also struck twice as Spain beat Croatia 3-0 in Middlesbrough. Up against Spurs We have twice faced Tottenham Hotspur in the top flight on this day in history. 1997 - Stan Collymore struck his 35th and final reds goal with Patrik Berger also netting in the first half as we won 2-1 in our last game of the campaign at Anfield. Darren Anderton had opened the scoring for the visitors. 1982 - Kenny Dalglish netted twice as we drew 2-2 at White Hart Lane in 1982, despite going in at the break two goals down, thanks to goals from Steve’s Perryman and Archibald, with this being one of Archibald’s six goals against us. In and out 1979 – Striker Frank McGarvey signed from Celtic for £300,000 after bagging 113 goals in 245 League games for the Hoops. However, he never broke into the first-team at Anfield. 1949 – Scottish centre-forward Sam Shields signed from Cowdenbeath, only playing once before joining Airdrieonians in July 1951. 1911 – Half-back Harry Lowe arrived from Gainsborough Trinity. He notched twice in 136 games for the reds, although he missed the 1914 FA Cup Final through injury, and he moved on to Nottingham Forest in March 1920. 1906 – Forward James Garside returned to Accrington Stanley after five outings without scoring since arriving from Stanley in March 1904. In opposition 1941 - Bill Shankly skippered Scotland at Hampden Park as England won 3-1 in a Wartime International. Fellow future reds boss Don Welsh bagged a brace. 1969 - Tommy Lawrence won his third and final cap for Scotland as they beat Wales 5-3 at the Racecourse Ground in a British International Championships game. Future red John Toshack netted while also playing his third international. For Ralph 1919 – We faced Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in a benefit match for half-back Ralph Holden, who had represented both sides and lost a leg during the war, going down 2-0. All the reds players donated £2 each to the fund, and a raffle including items such as a 2lb bag of sugar and a pipe raised £15! Silent Knight wed 1965 - Chris Lawler got married two days after helping us to claim the FA Cup for the first time in our history, and the day before the first leg of our European Cup Semi-final against Internazionale. Into the saddle 2006 - Former reds defender Richard Money was appointed Manager of Walsall, leading them to promotion out of League Two at the first attempt. He resigned in May 2008 after it was confirmed the club could not reach the League One play-offs. Other games on this day 1967 – We lost 2-1 at Leeds United, with Willie Stevenson opening the scoring from the spot. Jimmy Greenhoff struck the first of his five goals past us before Johnny Giles bagged the winner, one of his five against the reds. 1924 – We won 2-1 at Notts County to finish the season in twelfth. Ralph Cornwell put through his own net, with our other goal coming from Danny Shone. Also in international action 1919 – Ex-reds keeper Sam Hardy played alongside Ephraim Longworth as England beat Scotland 4-3 in a Victory International at Hampden Park. 1993 – Future reds Assistant Manager Christian Damiano took charge of France Under-16’s as they beat Hungary 3-0 in their European Championships Quarter-final in Istanbul 2006 – Future reds Krisztián Németh and András Simon both featured as Hungary Under-17’s lost 1-0 to Russia in a European Championships Finals group game in Luxembourg. 2011 – Adam Morgan, Brad Smith and future red Emre Can all played for the Under-17’s in European Championships Finals group games in Serbia. 2017 – Future red Ozan Kabak featured for Turkey Under-17’s in their 3-2 defeat by Spain in a European Championships Finals group game in Croatia. 2019 – Ki-Jana Hoever played as the Dutch Under-17’s beat Sweden 2-0 in a European Championships Finals group game in Waterford. On the same day, ex-Academy Manager Steve Cooper took charge of England in the same competition as they drew 1-1 with France in Longford.

A Real thumping 2009 - We thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield to reach the Quarter-finals of the Champions League 5-0 on aggregate. Steven Gerrard played his hundredth game in Europe, while Xabi Alonso was making his 200th reds appearance. Fernando Torres opened the scoring before Gerrard converted a penalty prior to the break. The skipper added his second before the night was rounded off by Andrea Dossena bagging the first of his two, equally memorable reds strikes. Pepe Reina played his fiftieth game in Europe for the club. In comes Emile 2000 - Emile Heskey joined the reds from Leicester City for a then club record transfer fee of £10.5 million. The big front man scored sixty goals in 223 reds appearances, helping us to claim the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two League Cups and FA Charity Shield before moving to Birmingham City in May 2004 for a fee of up to £6.25m. On the same day, Michael Foley played for the Republic of Ireland Under-16’s as they lost 2-1 to Yugoslavia in a Belgium Tournament game. 1938 – Forward Ron Jones signed from Wrexham, scoring once in five outings before the war intervened. He returned to Wrexham in peacetime. 1904 – Forward James Garside signed from Accrington Stanley, but only played five times without scoring before returning to Stanley in May 1906. Wark walks in 1984 - John Wark signed from Ipswich Town for £450,000 He struck an impressive 42 times in his 108 games for the reds. He left Anfield in January 1988 for £100,000 to return to Portman Road. Carra’s 500 2013 – Jamie Carragher played his 500th League game as we beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 at Anfield. Stewart Downing netted his seventh and last reds goal following a wayward back-pass before Steven Gerrard converted a spot-kick awarded after Suárez was fouled. 1984 – We beat Spurs 3-1 at Anfield, with Kenny Dalglish and Ronnie Whelan both netting just before half time. Sammy Lee added the third late on as left-back Alan Kennedy reached 200 League games with the reds. 1951 – Billy Liddell played his 200th reds game as we drew 1-1 at Middlesbrough, bagging our late equaliser. 1920 – Left-back Donald McKinlay reached a century of League games for the reds as we beat The Wednesday 1-0 at Anfield thanks to a goal from Harry Chambers. 4-3 again 1997 - We secured our second successive 4-3 League win over Newcastle United at Anfield, with Robbie Fowler nabbing his second in the last minute, after we had led 3-0 going into the final twenty minutes before Keith Gillespie, Faustino Asprilla and Warren Barton drew the Geordies level. Steve McManaman and Patrik Berger also scored for the reds. Jamie Redknapp remembers this game as his favourite from his reds career. Most recently in Europe 2016 – We beat Manchester United 2-0 in the first leg of our UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie at Anfield. Daniel Sturridge converted a penalty after Nathaniel Clyne was brought down in the box, with Roberto Firmino also on target. We went on to reach the Final in Basel that season. 2021 – Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané struck as we beat RasenBallsport Leipzig e.V. 2-0 in the second leg of our UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie in Budapest to progress 4-0 on aggregate. New stand 1973 – The present-day Main Stand was officially opened by the Duke of Kent, prior to our 3-2 top-flight defeat of Southampton. Future Saint Kevin Keegan bagged a brace after Larry Lloyd had opened the scoring. Mick Channon bagged one of his seven goals against the reds, with Paul Gilchrist also on target. Red birthdays 1986 - Centre-half Danny O’Donnell was born in Rainford, St. Helens. He moved up to Melwood from the Academy full-time in the summer of 2005, having skippered the Under-18’s during 2004/05. He joined Crewe Alexandra in June 2007 after a season-long loan. 1985 - Former reserves defender and England Under-19’s skipper David Raven was born in West Kirby, Wirral. He made four first-team appearances but left Anfield to sign for Carlisle United in July 2006. 1926 - Right-winger Jimmy Payne was born in Bootle. He notched 43 times in 243 appearances for the reds, including the 1950 FA Cup Final, before moving across Stanley Park in April 1956, where he was dogged by injury before retiring to become a newsagent. 1924 – Defender Fred Finney was born in Prescot. He signed on as an amateur in August 1941, but played just two senior reds games, both in the space of a week against Chester in January 1946. 1899 – Forward Jack Sambrook was born in Wednesfield. He played just twice after signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers in April 1922, moving on to Stockport County in May 1923. 1897 – Welsh centre-half Billy Matthews was born in Plas Bennion. After eight goals in thirteen Wartime reds games, he signed on from Colwyn Bay in 1918, netting four times in nine senior outings before joining Bristol City in March 1922. Reds hat-tricks galore We have scored three hat-tricks on this day. 1985 - Ian Rush netted a treble in an FA Cup Sixth Round tie at Barnsley, taking him to seven goals in that season’s competition. Ronnie Whelan also scored in a 4-0 win. He later had two separate spells on the backroom staff, under Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Gérard Houllier, and is now working in the media. 1906 - Forward Harry Barkas was born in Wardley Colliery. He only played five reds games, all in the First Division, after arriving for £1,500 from Gateshead in December 1930, returning there in 1932. Other birthdays 1961 - Former reserves forward Colin Russell was born in Liverpool. He only ever tasted half an hour of first team action for the reds, coming on for Howard Gayle in a home League defeat to Sunderland in May 1981. He left for Huddersfield Town in 1982. 1904 - Scottish international right-half Tom Morrison was born in Coylton, Ayrshire. He signed from St. Mirren in February 1928 for £4,000 and struck four times in 254 reds games. He failed to win any honours during his spell at Anfield but had won the Scottish Cup with St. Mirren before joining the reds. He was a member of the Sunderland team that won the League title in 1936, having moved to Wearside in November 1935.
