Luis born 1987 – Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez was born in Salto. He signed from Ajax for a club record fee of up to €26.5m in January 2011 and bagged an impressive 82 goals in 133 dazzling reds outings. Red trebles 2000 - Michael Owen scored a first half hat-trick past former team-mate David James as we defeated Aston Villa 3-1 at Anfield. He therefore became our first ever player to score two first-half hat-tricks in League games. Steve Stone bagged Villa’s late consolation. 1965 - ‘Sir’ Roger Hunt netted a treble in our 5-1 win at West Ham United, after Gordon Milne and Ian Callaghan had opened the scoring. Martin Peters scored for the Irons, one of his fourteen goals past us, with all the goals coming before the hour mark. 1986 - We also thumped the Hammers on their home turf when

Central moves 2014 – Daniel Agger joined Brøndby IF in his native Denmark for a reported £3m, after fourteen goals in 232 games since signing from the same club for £5.8m in January 2006. He had helped us to claim the FA Community Shield and League Cup. 2011 – Uruguayan Sebastián Coates signed from Nacional for £7m after impressing at the recent Copa América tournament. European semi-finals We have played three European Semi-finals on this day. 1985 - Mark Lawrenson grabbed the only goal of the game in Greece to knock Panathinaikos out 5-0 on aggregate, as we reached our fifth European Cup Final in nine years. 1997 - Our 2-0 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain in the European Cup Winners’ Cup at Anfield was not enough to overcome a three goal first-leg deficit. Robbie Fowler and Mark Wright netted our goals. Robbie’s strike was his seventh in the competition, a club record. 2018 – Mohamed Salah scored in his seventh consecutive reds game, netting twice p

Clinching the title 1964 - Our biggest win on this day came when we beat Arsenal 5-0, with goals from Ian St. John, Alf Arrowsmith, Roger Hunt and a brace from Peter Thompson. This was enough to hand us our sixth League title, and first under Shanks. BBC’s Panorama programme filmed the Kop at the game, to report on this “extraordinary cultural phenomenon”. The game was an entertaining affair, with Tommy Lawrence saving a George Eastham penalty after a handball by Ron Yeats with the score at 1-0, and Ian Callaghan having a spot-kick saved by ex-reds keeper, and Gunners captain for the day, Ji
