Happy birthday Thommo 1954 - Phil Thompson was born in Liverpool. He notched thirteen times in 477 games for the reds, many as skipper, as we won two European Cups, seven League titles, the UEFA Cup, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, two League Cups and five FA Charity Shields. He later had two separate spells on the backroom staff, under Kenny Dalglish, Graeme Souness and Gérard Houllier, and is now working in the media. 1906 - Forward Harry Barkas was born in Wardley Colliery. Strikers on the move 1961 - Ian St. John signed from Motherwell for a club record £37,500. He went on to bag 118 goals in 425 reds games, helping us to two League titles, our first ever FA Cup, Second Division championship and FA Charity Shield before joining South African side Hellenic in February 1971. 1897 – Scottish inside-forward William Walker signed from Leith Athletic. He struck three times in twelve reds games in his one year with the reds. 1979 - Future red John Aldridge signed for Newport County from South Liverpool for £3,500. He netted 83 times in 198 games for County.

Wembley derby joy 2012 - We came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley in our FA Cup Semi-final with keeper Brad Jones becoming the first reds player to make his first four appearances for the club in four different competitions. Nikica Jelavić pounced on hesitation in the centre of our defence to give the Blues a half-time lead. However, Luis Suárez then capitalised on a short back-pass by Sylvain Distin, with Andy Carroll heading in a late winner to send us through to our fourteenth Final.
