Internationinteroperability Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-38140981 awful this. On way back from their equivalent of a UEFA Cup game. Looks like most of the team have perishedActually, they were due to play the first leg of the final but they never made it that far. Only three players and two journalists survived the crash. Brazil is in shock and the return leg of the Copa do Brasil final has been postponed. Awful, awful mood in here, obviously!
Internationinteroperability Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Chape goalkeeper Danilo has died in the hospital. Atlético have asked CONMEBOL to award Chapecoense the title.
stressederic Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 This is just awful. One of their players missed the flight because of injury too. An injury which sidelined Chapecoence player Alejandro Martinuccio from the ill fated trip to Medellin, saved his life, AP reports.Speaking to Argentina’s La Red radio the winger said: “I was saved because I got injured.”“I feel profound sadness,” he said. “The only thing I can ask is prayers for the companions who were on the flight.”The 28-year-old has played for Spain’s Villarreal, Penarol of Uruguay and Brazilian clubs Coritiba, Ponte Preta, Cruzeiro and Fluminense.
Tones Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) Awful news this. Devastating for families of all involved first. Then devastating for team supporters of the team. RIP Edited November 29, 2016 by t1971

guernseygareth Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Any plane crash or loss of life is a tragedy but reading about their exploits this season seems to make it doubly cruel. RIP. YNWA.

Maldini Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Sounds like it might have been an air traffic control error, the trip was at the limit of that plane's range and they had requested to land but the controllers prioritised another plane. They had been circling for a while when they ran out of fuel. The fact they were out of fuel is probably what saved the survivors as there was no fuel explosion on impact.
Nerik Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) Too early to say that they ran out of fuel. No pilot would remain in the hold knowing he would run out of fuel before commencing an approach. No controllers would order an aircraft running out of fuel to remain in the hold. It goes against all fuel planning and common sense regulations for pilots and ATC. If it indeed ran out of fuel there was some miscalculation of sorts for some reason or other and one has to see whether a fuel emergency (which is more than just requesting a priority landing) was declared. If it indeed ran out of fuel there was some miscalculation of sorts for some reason or other and one has to see whether a fuel emergency (which is more than just requesting a priority landing) was declared. Reports this morning were saying that another plane reported a fuel emergency and so was prioritised and that the one that crashed had actually flown beyond its designed-for maximum distance anyway. Will all come out in time I suppose. Focus now should just be on the victims, families and survivors.
Nerik Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Yes I've read that. In that case it would show that the mistake would have majorly been a planning one with the plane getting at destination with less than safe fuel. The sequence of events that then led to it running out of fuel is what one then needs to find out. Also was their running out of fuel declared to air traffic control at the appropriate time (you usually declare a fuel emergency when you know you will land with less than a certain amount of fuel), was it noticed by the pilots or were they tackling some other malfunction etc? So many variables.
Leo No.8 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 As a pilot Nerik will you be going to see Miracle on the Hudson? Some job that guy did - I was reading about it the other day. Didn't realise it was only 3 minutes from the bird strike taking out both engines to landing on the water.
