Well the uk is out now so let’s see what happens to the poverty levels in the uk.

They'll get even worse cos the Tories are in charge but theEU are hardly against making countries do what they want.

Doesn't the EU basically force austerity on countries?

Yes and they decided to introduce a hard border in Ireland over vaccines, only to be caught out and apologise at the last minute.  The EU is seen as a bastion of Liberal thinking, when I  reality it's set up as bankers paradise.

Brexit under the tories is a mess, always was going to be,as with all of their policies, it wasnt thought through and most people voted on broken promises . The political structure is broken, liberal democracies have been exposed as merely a facade for the transition of money from the bottom to the top,in a slightly less direct way. Neither the EU or Brexit serve the vast majority of the people,  democracy itself doesnt either at the moment. There needs to be a seismic change on how, who and via what medium power is wielded.  To be in the the EU, out of the EU is merely another form of nationalism and does little to address the issue of poverty

It’s chaos. There’s animal dying because feed can’t clear customs, vital components for manufacturing stuck for weeks at a time, businesses desperately seeking help to deal with customs paperwork but there aren’t enough agents to deal with demand. Customs agency’s are turning away work, and have there import and export clerks working 60-70 hour weeks to deal with the work they can handle. Systems don’t work, the HMRC haven’t got the resource to handle all of the queries coming from customs agencies, they aren’t trained and don’t have the qualifications, experience, numbers, or information to provide. It’s systemic and is going to get worse when everything has to be declared from the 1st of July, with the 6 month grace period for none controlled goods ending, so there will be huge backlog of import declarations to deal with.
There are also nowhere near the number of border inspection points needed so there will probably be a backlog of vessels to go with the trucks shortly.

This is grim. Not really sure what the answer is really but COVID mixed with brexit ( will get worse when the full restrictions come in the summer) could properly destroy the country. Give and his ilk have so much to answer for.

I seriously think unless things change quickly we are in for some catastrophic problems during the summer. Things are going to bad up until then, but that’s the point everything has to be customs cleared on entry, and the backlog of the previous 6 months has to be cleared and paid. It’s also the point that temporary customs approvals for import points expires which means ports, railheads, airports, etc have to have to apply to and be approved by border force. These are places that have up until now been able to receive goods in free circulation from the EU, and have never had to be documented. The added issue he is that the UK national frontiers unit and border force haven’t got a clue how many of these places there are, where they are, or how they will be able to police them.

there is one solution. Ask for access to CU and SM. all the immediate problems will disappear, but the damage to some industries, like their beloved fishing, might be fatal by then

CUandSM is where we should have alighted in the first place given the 2016 vote but red lines and a sudden fixation by the ERG-types over borders, laws and sovereignty got in the way.

The only way Boris can get to CU and SM now is to grovel for it but not have it called that. And that ain’t gonna happen. They are being caught in their lies, though we are all paying the price

mind you, (United States) blue passports.

its put the Unionists in a tight spot, made their politics look backward , split their contract with the Tories, moved the emphasis towards a border poll. it also seems have sparked another discussion with where Scotland reside, in the EU or in the UK.

All going swimmingly

I ordered some speakers on December 18th, from a shop here that imports them form the UK. They're still on a lorry somewhere being held up at the border apparently.

I can see shops here not bothering with UK products as it's a lot of hassle at the moment.

The tories are already selling their pre-emptive defence on this one aren't they.

"We're signing a trade agreement with Madland".

"So what, most of of our trade is with the EU"

"Yes, but in 30 or 40 years' time, most of our trade will be with the big new emerging markets like Madland, they will be absolutely vital to our future".

By which time Gove and Johnson will be dead an buried and there'll be no come back when it has all failed to materialise.

see you're looking at it from a different viewpoint than me. without going into all the details I'm happy that it's a s***show.  in fact, at some point I hope lorries are burning in the south of England and people realise their government are liars. up North here,  its created a different dynamic, and theres a chance it might lead to an alternative outcome , rather than a straight forward sectarian border poll. tell you what contact me directly if you want and I'll explain it better over a beer.
