I'm intrigued where this squad finishes up this season and how Iraola juggles injuries tiredness and form and how he manages it. We could finish anywhere from 4th -14th. I'm gonna say 6th but 14th if Virg picks up any injuries.

Agreed. I know Dom scored loads last season but he's a midfielder that can do a bit as a forward. Iraola has clearly been told to get Isak and Wirtz firing and that's what he's doing. But other than those two what happens when they are out. We've seen plan A which is those two and then an empty goalless void when they go off. One can't last past 65 (Wirtz) and the other is so delicate I can't see him being a 65 game a season forward. It's not popular but I think Gakpo is more a Wirtz fill in than anyone else. But Isak needs back up. Gakpo as the 10 and Barcola as the 9???

They expected Hughes to spend well last season and wanted to back a manager that just won the league. The timing was right but he made a complete balls of it. Injuries didn’t help either but I do wonder if Jan might have seen players come in if we were doing great but had injuries. I think the trust in Slot Hughes and maybe Edwards too went out the window and they didn’t have anyone like Klopp to lean on.

It was incoherent wasn't it. Keeping Mo on a huge contract clearly meaning a 4 3 3 was to stay yet buying for insane money two forwards and a number ten more suited to a 4 4 2 diamond. Iraola is clearly working on the idea of making Isak and Wirtz the attacking force but I've no idea what we do if one or both need resting or get injured. Feels like first halves are what Iraola wants, the second halves are what cards he's left to deal with.

Yeah it's a really tough line to be honest. The balance thing and what we let slide and where peoples lines are. Using certain media, using certain products. These can be simple. Bad man runs toxic media. But everything being so interconnected means you've got more complicated calls to make on how many steps of separation is your sweet spot. Is it 1? Is it 5?
