Happy birthday Jerzy 1973 - Jerzy Dudek was born in Rybnik. The big Pole in our goal made 186 reds appearances after signing from Feyenoord for £4.85m in August 2001, helping us to glory in Istanbul, as well as the Worthington Cup in 2003. He left to join Real Madrid in July 2007, although he barely featured for their first team. A new boss 1951 – Don Welsh took charge of his first reds game as Jack Haigh nabbed the only goal of our top-flight meeting with Charlton Athletic at Anfield. Left-back Eddie Spicer reached a century of League appearances in this game. Away goals galore 1985 - John Wark netted an eighteen-minute hat-trick in our 5-0 win at West Bromwich Albion, with Steve Nicol and Kenny Dalglish also on target, while Bruce Grobbelaar saved a Derek Statham penalty. Wark therefore became the only red to score trebles in three different competitions in the same season, after Anfield hat-tricks against Lech Poznan in the European Cup and York City in the FA Cup. 1993 – Ian Rush put us in front at Crystal Palace after the break, but Chris Armstrong scored the 4,000th goal we had conceded in the top flight as the match ended 1-1 at Selhurst Park, with Steve Nicol playing his 300th League game for the club. 1991 - We routed Derby County 7-1 at the Baseball Ground under Ronnie Moran’s temporary control, thanks to a Jan Mølby penalty, braces from John Barnes and Steve Nicol, and goals from Ian Rush and Ray Houghton. Future red Dean Saunders scored the first of his four goals past us, although the only one before he moved to Anfield. 1903 - We also beat Derby in the First Division, winning 3-1 at Anfield, with left-half Bill Goldie netting his sixth and final reds goal and Sam Raybould and Jack Cox also on target. Masch off 2008 - We were beaten 3-0 at Manchester United, with Javier Mascherano sent off under a short-lived clampdown on players questioning officials. Wes Brown, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani netted for the home side. 1912 - We held the Red Devils to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford when Jack Parkinson netted our goal in this top-flight encounter. Jay off 2010 – Reserves midfielder Jay Spearing joined Leicester City on loan. He struck once in eleven outings as they reached the Championship Play-off Semi-finals. Bradley off the mark 1907 - Left-half Jim Bradley scored his first reds goal of eight as we thumped Newcastle United 4-1 at Anfield. Arthur Goddard, Jack Cox and Joe Hewitt were also on the scoresheet. A half century over Leeds 2003 - We earned our fiftieth League win over Leeds United in the 98th meeting. Michael Owen, Danny Murphy and Steven Gerrard all netted in a 3-1 win, with Mark Viduka bagging one of his six goals past us. Other births and deaths 1983 - Former reserves right-back Jon Otsemobor was born in Speke, Liverpool. He signed pro terms on his seventeenth birthday but played just six first-team games for us, before joining Rotherham United in July 2005. 1914 - Centre-half Norman Low was born in Aberdeen. He joined the reds in October 1933 but only played thirteen times while at Anfield, deputising for Tom Bradshaw, before moving on to Newport County in November 1936. 1908 – John Charlton was born in Leadgate, County Durham. He signed from Bradford City in October 1929, but only played three senior games before moving on to Derry City in 1932. 1947 – David Ashworth died. He was appointed as reds boss in December 1919. He had previously guided Oldham Athletic from non-League into the top flight, to whom he returned in December 1922 with the reds en route to retaining the League title he had led them to the previous season. 2011 – Ex-reds midfielder Trevor Storton died. He struck eight times in 118 League games for Tranmere Rovers before switching to Anfield for £25,000 in July 1972. He only played twelve times in two years before joining Chester, for whom he turned out more than 400 times. Double departure 1897 – Forward Malcolm McVean and inside-right Jimmy Ross were both sold to Burnley, although the Clarets got relegated at the end of that campaign. McVean had signed from Third Lanark in 1892, scoring our first ever League goal, bagging 43 in total in 126 reds games. He helped us to the Lancashire League title and two Second Division championships. Ross was known as the ‘little demon’, signing from the ‘invincible’ Preston North End for a club record £75 in August 1894, helping us to the Second Division title, scoring 39 times in 85 reds games and captaining the side. International doubles 1994 - Future reds Phil Babb and Jason McAteer both won their first full international caps for the Republic of Ireland in their goalless friendly meeting with Russia at Lansdowne Road. Ronnie Whelan skippered the Irish that day, while future red Gary McAllister captained Scotland on the same day, as they lost a friendly 1-0 to the Netherlands at Hampden Park. Meanwhile, former reds reserves midfielder Jim Magilton won his first Northern Ireland cap as a Southampton player as they beat Romania 2-0 in a friendly at Windsor Park. 2017 – Rhian Brewster bagged a brace as England Under-17’s beat the Czech Republic 5-3 in a European Championships qualifier in Bosnia & Herzegovina, with ex-Academy Manager Steve Cooper in charge. Meanwhile, Bernard Diomède was managing France Under-18’s to a 2-1 friendly defeat of Germany in Chauny. Stig on the way out 2000 - Stig Inge Bjørnebye was loaned out to Brøndby IF. He netted twice in thirteen League games for the Danish side and was sold to Blackburn Rovers within a month of his return to Anfield. 1999 - Reserves midfielder Danny Williams joined Wrexham on a free, bagging four goals in 48 games. He was then signed by Jan Mølby for Kidderminster Harriers. Alf’s last strike 1968 - Centre-forward Alf Arrowsmith struck his final reds goal as we won 2-1 at Sheffield Wednesday. His 24 goals came in 56 games. 1901 - We also faced The Wednesday, being held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield in another top-flight encounter, with Sam Raybould grabbing our goal and Fred Spiksley scoring one of his four against the reds. Anfield first 1893 – The first testimonial to be played by the reds at Anfield saw Bootle Boys Brigade beaten 1-0 in a match staged in aid of Liverpool Caledonians’ David Kirkwood. John Miller scored the goal. A semi-final thriller 1899 - We drew an FA Cup Semi-final replay 4-4 with Sheffield United at Burnden Park. Our goals came from Johnny Walker, George Allan, Jack Cox and a Peter Boyle own goal. Walter Bennett struck one of his five goals past us, with Fred Priest bagging a brace and Billy Beer also on target. Unfortunately, we lost a second replay 1-0 at Baseball Ground a week later. 1929 – The fifth and most recent FA Cup Semi-final to be staged at Anfield took place, with eventual winners Bolton Wanderers beating Huddersfield Town 3-1. Harkness starts out 1989 - Steve Harkness signed as a professional for Carlisle United. He played thirteen times before being signed by Kenny Dalglish four months later. Underneath the floodlights 1960 - We lost a match played to commemorate new floodlights at Dens Park. Dundee won 1-0, with brothers Bill and Bob Shankly in opposing dug-outs. Other international firsts and lasts 2013 – Ex-reds keeper Charles Itandje made his debut for Cameroon in their 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat of Togo in Yaoundé, with Kolo Touré winning his last cap as a Manchester City player as the Ivory Coast beat Gambia 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Abidjan. Future reds Joe Gomez, Sadio Mané, Joël Matip, Victor Moses and Xherdan Shaqiri were also in international action that day. 1991 - Sami Hyypiä won his first cap at any level, playing for Finland Under-18’s as they were held to a goalless draw by Yugoslavia in a friendly in Italy. 2019 – Ex-red Toni Silva won his first cap as an Al Ittihad Alexandria Club player as Guinea-Bissau drew 2-2 with Mozambique in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Bissau, as Abel Xavier took charge of the visitors for the final time. Rafael Camacho, Roberto Firmino, Ki-Jana Hoever, Sadio Mané, ex-red Philippe Coutinho and future reds Arthur Melo and Sepp van den Berg also played for their countries that day. 2016 – Trent Alexander-Arnold made his debut for England Under-18’s in their 3-2 friendly win in Austria, with Herbie Kane also featuring and Dejan Lovren also playing for his country. 2017 – Future red Federico Chiesa debuted for Italy Under-21’s in their 2-1 friendly win in Poland. Ex-red Sebastián Coates won his first cap as a Sporting Clube de Portugal player while facing Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and future red Alisson Becker as Brazil thumped Uruguay 4-1 in a World Cup qualifier in Montevideo. Sadio Mané featured for Senegal in a 1-1 friendly draw with Nigeria in Barnet on the same day, while future red Dominic Solanke converted a spot-kick as England Under-20’s drew 2-2 with Portugal in a tournament in France, the fourth consecutive game at his level he had scored in. Galatasaray’s Ozan Kabak scored while captaining Turkey Under-17’s to a 4-1 defeat of Finland in a European Championships qualifier in Antalya. Caoimhín Kelleher, future red Cody Gakpo and ex-reds Javier Mascherano and Brad Smith also played for their countries that day. 2015 – Future red Kelleher played for the Irish Under-17’s as they beat Belarus 3-1 in a European Championships qualifier in Poland. 2018 – Coutinho won his first cap as a Barcelona player, scoring from the spot in Brazil’s 3-0 friendly defeat of Russia in Moscow, with Roberto Firmino and future red Alisson Becker also in action, while future red Federico Chiesa made his senior bow as Italy lost 2-0 to Argentina in Manchester. On the same day, Virgil van Dijk played for the Netherlands for the first time as a red, with Joe Gomez, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gini Wijnaldum and ex-reds Ryan Babel and Raheem Sterling all also featuring as England won 1-0 in Amsterdam. Tosh the boss again 1995 - John Toshack was appointed Manager of Deportivo La Coruña, although he did not take over for another three months. He lasted a year and a half before he resigned, during which time they beat Real Madrid to win the Supercopa, the Spanish equivalent of the Charity Shield. Kenny and Jimmy for their countries 1982 - Kenny Dalglish netted in Scotland’s 2-1 friendly defeat of the Netherlands at Hampden Park. Future red John Wark also played. 1976 - Jimmy Case struck on his Under-23’s debut as England played their last ever fixture at this level, beating Hungary 3-1 in a European Championships qualifier at Old Trafford, although they went out on aggregate. Future reds on target 2017 - Dominik Szoboszlai nagged a brace while skippering Hungary Under-17’s in their 2-1 defeat of Russia in a European Championships qualifier in Budapest. 2001 - Milan Baroš scored for the Czech Republic Under-21’s as they won 2-0 in a European Championships qualifier in Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, future red Christian Poulsen won his first cap for Denmark at the same level in their goalless European Championships qualifying draw with Malta in Corradino. 1988 - Dean Saunders won his first cap as an Oxford United player, scoring as Wales lost 2-1 to Yugoslavia in a friendly in Swansea. Billy Liddell, Brian Jackson and Alan A’Court all netted as we also benefited from a Norman Noble own goal. 1953 – We lost 3-0 at Chelsea. 1935 – We beat Huddersfield Town 3-2 in L4. Tommy Johnson struck twice with Gordon Hodgson converting a spot-kick. Ex-reds on the move 1994 - Jimmy Carter joined Oxford United on loan from Arsenal. He made five appearances, returning for a second spell later that year. 1995 - Ray Houghton signed for Crystal Palace from Aston Villa for £300,000, bagging eight goals in 87 games for the Eagles. 2006 - Jon Newby joined Kidderminster Harriers on loan from Bury, failing to score in seven outings. 2012 – Former reserves forward Nikola Sarić signed for HB Køge in his native Denmark. A legend gets off the mark 1981 - Ian Rush scored his first two reds League goals to help us to a 3-0 home win over Leeds United, along with a Trevor Cherry own goal. 1925 - We also faced Leeds, with Fred Baron netting in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Full-back James Garner played his fifth and final reds game. Russell Wainscott struck one of his five goals against the reds in this match. Births and a death 1991 - Xherdan Shaqiri was born in Gjilan, then part of SFR Yugoslavia, and now in Kosovo. He signed from relegated Stoke City in July 2018 for £12.85m, netting eight times in 63 appearances and helping us to claim our first League title for thirty years and the FIFA Club World Cup, moving on to Olympique Lyonnais for €6m in August 2021. 1983 - Former reserves defender Andrew Nicholas was born in Liverpool. He could not break through to our first team and moved on to Swindon Town in July 2003. 1950 – Bobby Robinson died. He moved to the reds from his hometown club Sunderland for £500 in February 1904. He was top scorer as we won the Second Division title the following season, also helping us claim the First Division championship in 1906. During the latter stages of his time with the reds, he moved into the half-back line but still bagged a total of 65 goals in 271 games, moving on to Tranmere Rovers in May 1913. Anfield testimonials 1993 - A testimonial match was staged for Steve Nicol, who scored in the reds’ 2-1 defeat by a Great Britain XI managed by Terry Venables. 1992 - A match in honour of Bruce Grobbelaar was played, with the game against Everton ending in a 2-2 draw, with David Burrows and Ronnie Rosenthal on target and Bruce missing a penalty! A goalscoring debut 1914 - Inside-right Fred Pagnam scored on his reds bow, although he could not prevent us succumbing to a 3-1 defeat at Chelsea. 1896 – Willie Michael scored his first reds goal as we beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Anfield, with Malcolm McVean and Harry Bradshaw also scoring. New and old signings 1894 - Scottish half-back John McLean signed from Greenock Volunteers. He made 29 appearances without scoring before joining Grimsby Town in June 1897. 1948 - Albert Stubbins re-signed with the reds following a dispute with the club who had refused his request to train during the week back in his native Newcastle. He struck a total of 83 goals in 178 reds games in total. 2022 – Midfielder James McConnell signed a new contract. He signed from Sunderland as an Under-15, first turning pro in September 2021. He played nine senior games in 2023/24, including coming off the bench to help us claim the League Cup at Wembley. Debutants galore 1959 - Inside-forward Willie Carlin and centre-half John Nicholson both played their only reds games as we were held to a 2-2 Second Division draw at Anfield by Brighton & Hove Albion. Alan A’Court scored with Jimmy Melia having a late penalty saved by Brighton keeper Dave Hollins, before bagging a last-minute equaliser. 1931 – John Charlton and wing-half Alastair Henderson both made their reds bows as we were held to a 2-2 top-flight draw at home by West Ham United. Gordon Gunson and Dave Wright netted our goals, with Bob Done having a spot-kick saved by keeper Ted Hufton. 1970 – Ian Rush attended his first reds game, shortly before his ninth birthday, although he was actually supporting the home side as Tottenham Hotspur won 1-0 at White Hart Lane, thanks to a Martin Peters goal, one of his fourteen past us. Five for Jack 1904 - Jack Parkinson scored five goals as we thumped Burnley 7-1 in a Lancashire Senior Cup game at Anfield, with Bobby Robinson and Arthur Goddard also netting. Internationals on target 2020 – Roberto Firmino bagged a brace as Brazil thrashed Bolivia 5-0 in a World Cup qualifier in São Paulo. Xherdan Shaqiri and ex-reds Emre Can and Philippe Coutinho also played for their countries that day. 2019 – Roberto Firmino netted for Brazil as they drew 1-1 with Senegal in Singapore, with future reds Wataru Endō and Takumi Minamino both scoring for Japan as they thumped Mongolia 6-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Saitama, with this being Endō’s first senior goal for his country and only one as a Koninklijke Sint-Truidense Voetbalvereniging player. Paul Ince won his last cap as a reds player, while Michael Owen and future red Emile Heskey both also featured, with Owen booked for an alleged dive. On the same day, future red Fernando Morientes netted in Spain’s 3-0 defeat of Yossi Benayoun’s Israel in a Euro 2000 qualifier in Albacete, with future red Alex Manninger also in international action. 1997 – Manninger played for Austria Under-21’s as they beat Belarus 2-0 in a European Championships qualifier in Eisenstadt. 1998 - Craig Bellamy struck his second and last goal as a Norwich City player as Wales won a qualifier 2-1 in Denmark. Sammy in charge 2000 - Sammy Lee took charge of England Under-21’s for the first time, leading them to a 2-2 draw in Finland, with future red Daniel Sjölund on the scoresheet in this European Championships qualifier. On the same day, future red Milan Baroš scored for the Czech Republic Under-21’s in their 1-0 win in Malta, while Richie Partridge played for the Republic of Ireland as they beat Estonia 1-0 in Kilkenny. Djimi for Mali 2004 - Djimi Traoré made his international debut for Mali, playing alongside future red Momo Sissoko as they lost 1-0 to Togo in a World Cup Qualifier. Derby spoils shared 1903 - We were held to a 2-2 draw in the Anfield derby, with inside-left Dickie Morris grabbing his first two reds goals and Jim Sheridan bagging a brace for the visitors. 1910 – The Blues won a Lancashire Senior Cup Second Round game 1-0 at Anfield. Thumping the Villains 1953 - We secured our biggest victory over Aston Villa, winning 6-1 at Anfield despite the scores being level with twenty minutes remaining. Future red Øyvind Leonhardsen played for Norway at the same level that day in Norway’s 1-0 win in Yugoslavia. 2002 - Pepe Reina made his last appearance for Spain at the same level as they won a qualifier 2-0 in Armenia. Johnno off 2003 – Future red Glen Johnson was sent off as England Under-21’s lost a European Championships qualifier 1-0 in Turkey. Future reds coach John Heitinga played for the Netherlands for the first time since joining Everton as they shared a goalless draw with Australia in Sydney. Craig Bellamy netted as captain as John Toshack’s Wales lost 2-1 in a qualifier in Finland, with ex-reds Sami Hyypiä and Jari Litmanen on the winning side. Nicolas Anelka was also on target as France thumped the Faroe Islands 5-0 in Guingamp, while future red Milan Jovanović bagged a brace as Serbia trounced Romania by the same score in Belgrade. Ajax’s Luis Suárez netted in Uruguay’s 2-1 qualifying win in Ecuador. On their way out 2006 - Salif Diao agreed to join Stoke City on loan, following previous temporary spells away from Anfield with both Birmingham City and Portsmouth. Michael’s European record 2002 - Michael Owen scored his fifteenth away goal in Europe, which remains a club record, as we beat Vitesse Arnhem 1-0 at their Gelredome in the Third Round of the UEFA Cup. Surprisingly, this was our first game in the Netherlands on a club ground, and our first win in the country. Beating the Gunners 2004 - Neil Mellor grabbed a dramatic last-gasp winner as we beat Arsenal 2-1, his first League strike. Xabi Alonso had opened the scoring with his first Anfield goal before Patrick Vieira rounded off a slick Arsenal move to equalise. Antonio Núñez came on as a substitute for Florent Sinama-Pongolle to make his reds debut. Porto downed 2007 - We thumped Porto 4-1 at Anfield in a Champions League group game to keep us on track to qualify for the knock-out phase. Steve Finnan played his 200th reds game, and fiftieth in Europe for the club, as Fernando Torres struck his first two European goals for the reds before the scoreline was boosted by a late penalty converted by Steven Gerrard and a Peter Crouch header. This was our 150th game in the European Cup, including qualifiers. Future red Raul Meireles came off the bench for the visitors, with Lisandro López bagging the first of his two goals against the reds. Red farewells 2015 – Legendary defender Gerry Byrne died. He was the hero of our first FA Cup triumph in 1965 when he played for 117 minutes of the final against Leeds United at Wembley with a broken collar bone sustained in an early challenge by Bobby Collins. He also won two League titles and the FA Charity Shield in his eleven years at Anfield, making a total of 333 reds appearances and scoring four times. He only ever made two substitute appearances before leaving for Sochaux-Montbéliard for the same fee, having been rumoured to be Le Boss’s mole in the dressing room. 1927 - Bill Murray signed from Clydebank, netting once in four reds outings before moving to Barrow in January 1930, where he became their skipper. 1945 – South African winger Bob Priday signed from Cape Town City. His chances were limited to forty reds games, as he was behind Billy Liddell in the pecking order. He notched seven times while at Anfield, before moving on to Blackburn Rovers in March 1949. A rare number two 1992 - Mike Marsh netted his first League goal past Nigel Martyn as we beat Crystal Palace 5-0 at Anfield. He remained the most recent player to score for us in the number two shirt in a first-class match until Álvaro Arbeloa’s solo effort at Reading in April 2007. He had made 38 appearances in nearly two years at Anfield since signing from Italian club Salernitana for £2.6m, without getting on the scoresheet. Shanks victorious 1959 – Bill Shankly’s Huddersfield Town beat the manager-less reds 1-0 at Leeds Road. We fell behind to a Les Massie goal while skipper and centre-back Dick White was off the field injured, one of his four strikes past us. Happy birthdays 1978 - Ex-reserves striker Jon Newby was born in Warrington. He only made four substitute appearances while at Anfield, as well as staying on the bench on a further five occasions, moving on to Bury for free in March 2001. On the same day, future reds coach Joe Corrigan played for England B as they beat Czechoslovakia 1-0 in Prague. 1994 – Swedish winger Kristoffer Peterson was born in Gothenburg. He arrived from Sävedalens IF in January 2011, signing a contract extension three years later. However, he left for Utrecht in August 2014. In charge 1994 - Steve McMahon was appointed Swindon Town Manager. He was in charge for 201 games as the Robins were first relegated from the First Division, and then bounced straight back as champions. He was sacked in September 1998. 2007 - Ex-reds reserves forward Paul Jewell took over as boss of Derby County, who were firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premiership. He resigned in December 2008 having failed to save them from relegation. 2013 – Recent Assistant Manager Sean O’Driscoll was sacked as Bristol City boss, having been in charge for just ten months. 2022 – Former Academy coach Michael Beale was appointed Manager of Rangers. He was sacked after eleven months in charge. Cally for England 1962 - Ian Callaghan won the first of his three England Under-23’s caps in their 5-0 friendly thumping of Greece at St. Andrews. Shot down at Arsenal 1931 - Jack Lambert scored a second-half hat-trick for Arsenal as they trounced us 6-0, three of his seven goals past us, with John Charlton playing his third and final reds game. David Jack struck the last two of his nine goals against the reds, with Joe Hulme scoring one of his ten past us. The Gunners were pipped to the League title by our blue neighbours that season. 1970 - We lost another top-flight meeting at Highbury, going down 2-0. John Radford netted one of his seven goals against the reds, with George Graham coming off the bench to bag one of his four past us. Earning our Spurs We have faced Tottenham Hotspur three times in top flight matches on this day in history, resulting in one win, a draw and two defeats. 2010 – We lost 2-1 in north London, despite Jermain Defoe missing a penalty. Martin Škrtel opened the scoring before putting through his own net in the second half. Jamie Carragher dislocated his shoulder late on before Aaron Lennon bagged an injury-time winner. 2012 – We lost by the same score there, with Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale both scoring early on. A Steven Gerrard header was cleared off the line by Lennon but rebounded off Bale for an own goal after the break. 1987 - We won 2-0 at White Hart Lane thanks to goals from Steve McMahon and Craig Johnston, in what was Kenny Dalglish’s hundredth League game in charge as Paul Walsh appeared for the 112nd and last time. Steve Hodge was sent off for elbowing Ray Houghton inside the first twenty minutes, while Gary Gillespie broke Spurs’ Neil Ruddock’s leg in a challenge. The home side were being managed for the first time by Terry Venables. Amazingly, this was our first victory on this day in history at the fourteenth attempt. 1964 - Roger Hunt struck in a 1-1 draw at Anfield, with Jimmy Greaves netting one of his twelve goals against the reds. A bad day to meet the Villains We have faced Aston Villa three times in the top flight on this day in history, winning just once. 1993 - Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp netted as we won 2-1 at Anfield, with Dalian Atkinson bagging the last of his four goals against us. 1914 - Villa left with a 6-3 win, with Jimmy Nicholl netting a brace and Tom Miller also on target for the reds. Full-back Bob Crawford played his 114th and final reds game. Harry Hampton netted one of his fifteen goals against the reds, with Joe Bache nabbing the final one of his nine past us, and Clem Stephenson scoring one of his five, with Harold Edgley netting twice and Tommy Barber also on target. 1903 - We lost 2-1 at Villa Park, with Jack Parkinson nabbing our consolation. Unfortunately, we lost the Anfield return by the same score. 1981 – We went down 1-0 at Southampton to a late Steve Moran goal. The home side included three former England captains – Alan Ball, Mick Channon and ex-red Kevin Keegan. 1953 – We lost 3-1 at Cardiff City despite Louis Bimpson opening the scoring. Wilf Grant and Ken Chisholm each netted one of their four goals against the reds, with George Edwards also on target. 1925 – We lost 1-0 at home to Bury, the only time the Shakers have won at Anfield in 26 attempts to date. 1908 – Manchester City won 3-1 in L4 with Sam Bowyer bagging our goal. Keeper Sam Hardy had to go off at half time due to injury, with left-back Billy Dunlop taking over the gloves. Sharing the shield 2003 - Young red Jordan Holmes skippered England Under-16’s as they drew 1-1 with their Scottish counterparts at Hampden Park. This result ensured that the two countries shared the Victory Shield, ahead of Northern Ireland and Wales. On the same day, future red Javier Mascherano appeared for Argentina Under-20’s in the World Championship Finals as they beat Spain 2-1 in a group game in the United Arab Emirates. Other reds game 1936 – Derby County held us to a 3-3 draw at Anfield. The Rams’ Jack Parker put through his own net, before Sammy Crooks levelled from the spot, one of his six goals against the reds. Berry Nieuwenhuys and Fred Howe then put us ahead, but Dally Dunkin and Reg Stockill struck for the visitors. Off on loan 2013 – Three young reds left the club on loan. Centre-forward Adam Morgan joined Yeovil Town, with midfielder Craig Roddan moving to Carlisle United and winger Kristoffer Peterson crossing the Mersey to join up with Tranmere Rovers.
