todays game

thought we did pretty well....started poorly, but then took control after the first goal...

 

Thought gerrard and lucas did a good job in middle, though were not up against much it has to be said..

 

What alarmed me most was how easily torres got brushed off the ball by 2 fairly average center backs......havent really seen that happen much since his time at anfield, still hes definetly off the boil at the mo....that wont last long though.

 

degen - good to finally see him...and he looked fairly good in his brieft time on the pitch..

 

 

reina - 8 a couple of excellent saves..had a great start to the season

johnson - 7 did ok, looked knackered which is why he came off 2nd half....

insua - 7 quietly asured! looks likes he been around forever

skrtel - 7 solid, a couple of dodgy moments but hopefully will be soon back to his best

carra - 7 easy day

kuyt - 8 what can you say...has become a vital player for us...outstanding workrate today

benny - 9 MOM was everywhere

gerrard 7 solid

lucas 8 got stuck in well

reira 6 fairly average, nothing spectacular....id like to him get round the back more, something we saw from his early days but not so much since

torres 6 i`ll probably get some stick for marking 6 out of 10, but i honestly didnt think he had a great game today...had a number of chances to run at the defence and was easily shrugged of the ball.....

ngog 5 i like this guy...reckon hes far better than many think

voro - well....how do i mark him?? a couple of nice passes..one which included the goal so a 6....but hey that chance at the end...oh dear oh dear....and ya know..i just kne whe was gonna miss that , as im sure did 44,000 other people in the stands..

I thought Yossi and Gerrard looked world class , in a a really good team

performance . Lucas looked relevant without Masch, whilst Johnson looked tired and a pale shadow. Torres was very poor.

 

Of the subs, Degen was the best. Ngog, like Voronin, is simply not good enough to play for our club.

I thought Degen was a bit all over the shop, but better than expected. agree about Ngog, not in a nasty way but i'd never bank on him to score if through on goal for example. Think he's weirdly overrated online because he isn't voronin. he scores very high in the not voronin department.

I thought the movement was non-existent in the first half, but after we got the first goal our confidence shot up.

 

We had all our best available "ball players" on the pitch today and that made a difference. It helped that Yossi and Dirk were on their game as well - when the both of them play well the whole team seems to gel. Riera was also pretty good I thought, kept the ball well and kept the play flowing.

he did nowt wrong and Rafa did a good thing giving him a few minutes on the pitch.

a nice easy win to shut up the media hawks and a chance to give 3 players a bit of a rest near the end. hopefully, we can do the same in midweek.

Voronin did very well when he came on. He missed an easy chance, but he made some nice runs and intelligent passes.

 

He has plenty of bad outings but yesterday he was solid, and anyone who thought he was w*** is probably pre-judging just a tad.

Tired? I think he lacks a bit of match sharpness and thats about it. A few more games and he'll be hitting his stride as per usual. Still a good goal return, 3 in 5.

 

That said, its very good to see our other attacking players carry the mantle with regards to goal creating and scoring. Third hattrick for Benny in our colours, yes?

To be fair to Truddi Chase, you have to mark Gerrard on a different scale to other people. A 7 for him is the best performance in the entire career of lesser players.
