See no where else to put this reminiscing stuff! I'd love to ask Souness what his thoughts were when he took the peno in this game, his emotions, his mind, where his thoughts were, nerves etc.

This is the first game I can remember from first to last whistle.

f***ing Get In! YES!

dunno if belongs elsewhere, I've been watching the penalty shootouts videos down the years on youtube, looking to see the managers reactions, I got lost after about 3 videos and well, this stuff is just strawberry jam really!

I'd completely forgotten the fk up by Westerveld in this game

I'd love to be able to edit the title of this thread to say 'please post your favourite LFC moment'.... I got a CD from Owen******, cant recall his username, in the post around 2006 that had hundreds of pics on it, serious collection of moments from Istanbul, brilliant stuff, I think that guy is still on here, I'm gonna dig that out and have (another) beer!

Right, I'm done now. sleep well!

Souey's pen is as good as any you'll ever see.

Pressure (Away in Rome, CL final), context (captain & last ever game). Laces, full power, top corner.

Wallop!

Yeah, great pen in just about the most difficult circumstances imaginable.

I was terrified watching that even now.

Two things...where was Josemi? And that's how to lift a cup. Captain up first, lift it up...everything else wades in after...

Boy do I remember this game. Was watching it in a hotel room in Crawley. A couple of workmates insisted on watching it with me, hoping to take the mickey just in case we lost. The Westerveld f*** up had me nearly faint.

My memory is awful, I didn't even realise Pepe was in goal for them!

I missed a pen at 11-a-side at the weekend, it was s***, I should have just whacked it like I usually do.

We lost our first league game of the season, s****.

As Kennedy's penalty went in, the whole Liverpool end went mental. After a few minutes, my mate turned to me and said" we are going to get battered now!!"

One of the worst trips to an airport ever.

Great flight back once we were all seated.

Wasn't Rushie's penno rubbish? In 84 I thought it was the coolest penalty of the lot. I was madly into us then. Had a book about Liverpool in Europe and memorised stuff like the team which won the Uefa in 73. Always got stuck on Peter Cormack.

The Uefa Cup wins still seem madly exotic to me even now cos they were just before my time and there were always pictures from those games in proeys and in the echo. I mean, Dinamo Dresden must have been the greatest scalp of all time what with their yellow shirt with the black line across - the very definition of a crack Eastern European outfit. How could we ever have beaten them with those shirts?

Did Souness know he was off after that final? Was it public that he was off to Italy and that was his last game?

don't think it was, not sure he had the deal by then anyway

That 50:50 tackle by Hyypia on Rivaldo is absolutely class

I was lucky enough to once have a beer with Phil Neal & asked him just that re Rome 77.

"What was it like taking a penalty that effectively won us a EC? What was going through your mind?"

I told him "on TV the goal looked tiny & the keeper massive. I couldn't see how you could get it past him".

He said "yeah that Kneip big lad wasn't he? I actually panicked & changed my mind which side to put it in the run-up!"

Good Lad Zico, properly loves us still.

similar, my dad asked him what it was like and he said then once he collects the ball Keegan says "Put this f***** in" Smith "Put this f***** in" Heighway "Put this f***** away" he was panicking, and looking for reassurance he looked at cally who said "put this c*** in the net"

I went to that game. Was right at the front of the Kop and could hardly see a thing. I was only 9 so turned round to watch the crowd waiting for the melee. The collective groan following that penalty miss was haunting.
