All well and good being open to opportunistic signings, but having seen Hughes operate, I expect he'll approach clubs thinking we're doing them a favour. Timing means we have to overpay, this level of incompetence was usually reserved for the Mancs.

This midfield is a mess. I can see what Iraola is trying to do but Macalister is not a 6 and we're even more open on the counter.

That's because he's average in every way. A couple of seasons back I recall him posting a pic of him working out prior to playing us, with some kinda "getting ready" caption. Which would have been fine if his free weights didn't look like something I used when I was 13 (Argos FTW).

It feels like we're so desperate to maintain our negotiating position that they're prepared to risk our whole season. It's ridiculous.

He's okay, a spurs mate of mine (sorry @Hassony no shade being thrown!) thinks he's decent 1 on 1 but otherwise average. I agree, he's defensively suspect, overly reliant on his pace and has lapses of concentration. But saying all that, we need numbers, he can play both sides, so I'd much rather have him than not. He also knows the league. Not a great endorsement but Bill & Ben have really messed up our squad planning / building.

I know it's pre season but such a marked change from us under Slot, so much more pace to our play. So noticeable, each pass is hit with so much more force. Nyoni looked great.

I think we need someone exactly like Anderson, combative but not in a reckless way, works hard, good on the ball, decent engine with lots of scope to improve. The fee is ridiculous but I can see why City went for him, especially with Rodri seemingly dreaming of Madrid.
