'I just can't imagine what state I'll be in within five or six years if I continue to play here - it could easily give me problems when I stop playing,' Torres said.

Hope he is just waving a middle finger to premier league refs and yearning for more protection next season, than really meaning what he said.

Those quotes have a real whiff of being taken out of context to me.

To be fair he DOES get the s*** kicked out of him every game but perhaps not the wisest comments to make at the moment.

In his first couple of seasons, he seemed to just get right up and get on with it. In a way, the kickings he got seemed to spur him on. But I can completely understand how after a while, it stops being a motivator, and starts being feking annoying, and the pain accumulates.

At the moment, I don't even care if Torres starts being a bit theatrical, because players like Drogba, and (when he was in the Prem) Ronaldo, get much better protection from refs when they do make a big deal of challenges. The kickings that Torres has taken this season is appalling.

isn't there scope to make an official complaint about the lack of protection? with video evidence etc?

there may well be, but then we ,and particularly Rafa, will get merciless stick from an already xenophobic media.

to be fair, I am amazed Torres has not decked a few of the defenders he ahs faced this season. it's the stuff off the ball that must really piss him off. hard tackles are part of the game, but not elbows in the back and kicks to the ankles when the ball is 50 yards away.

What the f*** has Martin Atkinson got against Torres?

f*** knows, it's weird. It cant be something thats built up over time as he let Duberry and Bikey try leg breaker after leg breaker on him at Reading in the Carling Cup and Torres had only been here for a couple of months then. Maybe he's an Atletico fan!

Or just jealous of his fresh faced beauty.

Wasn't he the ref when Torres got a hat-trick at Reading in his first season?

He let them kick him all over the park.

Think he's decided he's a cheat and objects to Torres questioning him.

He's a right c***. Him, Dowd and Lee Mason.

The axis of evil.

However, the need to play at a constant high tempo in England means Torres has enjoyed comparatively less success at the Reds than he did in La Liga with former club Atletico Madrid.

Like Babbel of 9/9/99 fame, Torres turned down United twice, didn't he? Not going to go down well Atkinson, that isn't.

and this will be the same nando who a few moths ago was saying that he relished that physical challenge and it made him a better player..... I think you're reading far more into that than is necessary.

I do too - he's had a pretty miserable season so it's no wonder that he sounds pretty miserable.

Sounds like Torres needs to watch that soft-focus montage about him and King Kenny and the responsibilities of being a living legend again.

he wont leave this season, but reading that he's not here for the rest of his career.

He's telling Rafa he wants to play 4-4-2

Funnily enough was thinking about those mile high hoofs and suicide balls, giving the chopper enough time to line up man and ball

Definitely. As if Torres is going to leave because the league is too physical. If he went back to Spain all they'd do is kick him as well knowing he was a p*ssy. He's a tough lad who's just had a sh*t season.
