New York Red Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I think what may be lost in the panic here is that we are not in such bad shape. Lyon are sort of running away with the group and Debreceni haven't won. It will be down to us and Fiorentina and I can see us beating them at Anfield, and we'll beat Debreceni again. It will be down to what we do against Lyon in France. They are good, but with the chips on the line, I know we'll do well. We've dug ourselves out of deeper holes than this.
New York Red Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 That's going to take ages. But I did it last year. I was wrong...
Dmitch Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Its never over till we cant claw back the points... Stay positive IF you can im confident that our time will come soon!
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 3 games, 3 wins sees us through. Although 2 are away
Case Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Fiorentina have Lyon (and Debrenici) at home, don't they? If they win that, we're in deep s***.
surf Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 3 games, 3 wins sees us through. Although 2 are away not necessarily, three teams can end up with 12 points. we probably need a better result against fiorentina than their 2-0 win or a better result against lyon than their 1-0 win. three 1-0 wins might not see us through, unless lyon do us a favour by taking points from fiorentina
Leo No.8 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 We were in the same position the year before last after losing horribly to Marseille at home (one of the worst performances I've ever seen from a Liverpool side) having to win our last three. We thrashed Marseille away after losing to them at home. Doubt we'll do that to Lyon who are a much better side but if Torres and Gerrard are fit I believe we'll do it; we have been spoilt in the Champions League under Rafa though, so if we miss out this year I'll be disappointed but I'll get over it.
Leo No.8 Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 three 1-0 wins might not see us through, unless lyon do us a favour by taking points from fiorentina I think having played both sides that Lyon are much the better of the two teams, our loss in Italy was far more disappointing with the team we had out. I will be disappointed if Lyon don't at least draw with Fiorentina.

Beardsley Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 It may come down to beating Fiorentian 3-0 at home, since we lost 2-0 away. That will not be an easy task.
Red Kent Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Europa League qualification is not a certainty.
anny road Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Europa League qualification is not a certainty. you have to finish third in the group Debrecen wont get a point

The Hitman Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 If we get Torres and Gerrard back,we can win all three games.
surf Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 yep. lyon are a good side. i can see them doing pretty well in europe this season, although they're defence might see them unstuck. think they had loads of injuries though, so looked weaker in defence than they usually are
Dominus Maximus Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 So let's win the effin Europa League.
DanielS Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Might not be so easy in the Europa League with Barca and Real...
JRC Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Other than financial implications (which I'd rather not to have to factor into my football views, however unrealistic that may be), I won't lose too much sleep over failing to qualify. It's embarassing, but it didn't seem to hold Utd back when they didn't get out of the group a few years back- it's like an early-round, unexpected defeat in the FA Cup - it doesn't make me happy, but you deal with it and get on. If there's one thing that even the most hardened anti-Rafa commentator has to admit, it's that he has done brilliantly in Europe - it is even used as a stick to beat him with, bizarrely; so one season where we don't do as well should not be held against him, there should be no argument that he hasn't earned that leeway - unless you're a hypocrite with an agenda.

CarraLegend Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 On the plus side of going out we avoid two tedious ties against Chelsea and there would be some immense trips in a competition we'd be big favourites to win. I obviously want us to go through but if we go out we go out.
Stevie H Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 we've got out of worse holes. but we do bloody love getting into them.
Jarg Armani Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 we've got out of worse holes. but we do bloody love getting into them. It's our M.O.
