What a f***ing mad game! I'd really forgotten about practically all of it apart from Xabi from the HW line....in my memory that made it 4-2. Completely forgot that we missed a pen, then conceded one & were 3-1 down at a point

Wasn't Tranmere the same season? Another f***ing stupid game

Nah Tranmere was 2000/01 season.

Carson really was an awful keeper.

And he still is.

Thing that stood out when he played for us, is he must have had one of the worst shots to saves ratios in the league.

I see your Carson and raise you a Kirkland.

Carson although he made a mistake for Juve's goal, had two great games against them in the CL. His save from Del Piero was outstanding.

Shanks always said to judge a keeper by the saves he makes and not the mistakes.

So on that basis Kirkland was one of the worst ever as he never dived for the ball.

Kirkland had a ball-sized hole in his chest - hit it at him & it went in.

I remember around Dec 04 - I think about 9/10 shots on target went in (against us)

We do this every couple of months, but its always worth remembering how s*** he was

I bet if we saw the thread from when Kirkland signed 2 things would stand out;

1)everyone would be raving about him, how he was nailed on to be England's goalkeeper for the next 20 years.

2)why the f*** are we signing Kirkland AND Dudek, ah no its good business like because Kirkland is obviously world class but he's not ready so he'll play in the reserves for 5 years.

Love it, Xabi not really that happy with a 40 yarder so decides to try and top it.

Pongolle was a pretty tidy striker. Should have kept him.

Did really well for Recreativo when he left us, but then hasn't done much of note since (apart from gaining a move to Atletico).

He was on loan at Rovers?

i dont think kirkland was a bad keeper, just made of glass thats all

He compensated for that by never getting his body in the way of the ball.
