'Recurrent health problems' sounds nasty, surely it's recurrent football related injuries, no?

Always very suspicious of players immediately managing big clubs/national sides. Usually does not end well.

For Smicer though I wish him all the best of luck. Always seemed a great lad. Many may not see him as a hugely brilliant football player, and he did spend a lot of his time here as bystander and/or injured. However I would have loved to have the likes of him as a squad player in our current position.

Helped us winning our two biggest trophies the past two decades or so as well.

36 - thought he was younger than that

Body of an 86 year old.

Still, good luck lad. No doubt the news will be greeted with a million smilies by hels.

liked smicer, shame he had so many injury problems..

thought his best period was when he played at the top of a diamond at the start of Ged`s last season (i believe)

Never had an injury in his life before he came to us. And Ged trying to turn him into a winger ruined him as a player.

Good luck Vladi.

Smicer is a good guy, and I will always be thankful for his performance and goal in Istanbul, but he was pretty s*** for us overall wasn't he?

Injuries (ankle problems in particular) did have a lot to do with that though, which is a shame as he was a very, very clever little player. I always liked Vladi a lot, in the same way I've always liked Yossi - those two are my type of player.

Intelligent, very skilful, professional and proud to play for Liverpool. Istanbul saved Smicer's career here, but injuries were what held him back which is a shame as he wasn't an injury prone player before he came to us.

Wish him all the very best as a coach. Vlad's Istanbul story was a fairytale in the middle of a bigger fairytale. It proved nice guys don't always finish last; I couldn't have been more pleased to see him have that wonderful night.
