Captain Carrot Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Pants full back but as a left winger he knows were the goal is and never stopped trying. Very impressed yesterday.
Coyler Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Yeah, it's just underneath that white horizontal pole.
DonRafa Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Yeah, it's just underneath that white horizontal pole.
Coyler Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I know, I know! I actually really like the Dosser as well. He is one of a fair few players we have plucked from the middle of a fat Penguin classic, all melodrama and redemption. You want a s***load of them around you in the endgame.
Snookie Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He's a good player playing in a system to which he is not entirely suited. He has heart and passion. He beat Arbeloa to celebrate the goal on Saturday, which is saying something. So I hope he succeeds in adapting his game because every great squad needs those qualities.
Bailo Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I really want him to stay and be brilliant. Perfect "f***-you" for Rafa to crow about.
Jarg Armani Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I see his face everywhere I go hahaha YES! on a serious note, if he's played there he'll score goals. lovely little run for the header yesterday.
Knox_Harrington Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He is one of a fair few players we have plucked from the middle of a fat Penguin classic, all melodrama and redemption.Great description. He played on Saturday on the left instead of Fab Aurelio.
suzyv Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I think he has shown a great attitude he has not demanded he play he has just taken every chance he has been given and improved each time. He is slowly adapting to our style of play as I might add is Lucas who I have always liked.
cymrococh Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He's been class, nearly scored for Italy as well apparently.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He was also 12/1 to score in 90mins on Saturday. Lost a tenner to the bookies on that bet
Leo No.8 Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I can see the words 'cult hero' being used to describe Dossena at some stage. His uncomfortable looking hunched over running style and fantastic attitude have a touch of the Igors about them. He has a great left foot as well. Shame for him Aurelio is playing as well as any left back in the game at the moment and Insua is looking such an outstanding prospect, or I'd be in no doubts about him staying next season. As it is he may have to continue to prove he can play left midfield and be willing to be versatile to stay here. Much though I've really taken to him, I still put the other two ahead of him as it stands - Aurelio for quality and Insua for potential.
MFletcher Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I really like him - his attitude has been superb and he seems to ba a solid left midfield option. I hope he stays, because I think there's a lot more to come from him, whether that be at left back or left mid.
David Hodgson Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He's a revelation. Born again. The new Ray Kennedy, or even the new Ljunberg. Our secret weapon in the run in. Rafa always knew what he was doing here.

And that's why you're my favourite poster here. Lovely stuff (in Alan Partridge voice).
Swipe Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 He was also 12/1 to score in 90mins on Saturday. Lost a tenner to the bookies on that bet Had him for first scorer at 33-1
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Much better at left midfield/forward than left back where nerves seem to affect his play but ultimately he has neither the pace nor the creativity to be a regular fixture in that position. Although his character and willingness to succeed make him likeable, we'd do best to cash in and contribute the money to signing a top class wide player.
jimmylibel Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 DOSSENA LOVING LIVERPOOL LIFE James Carroll 06 May 2009 Andrea Dossena believes his decision to swap the canals of Milan for the banks of the Mersey has proven to be the right one as the defender revealed he couldn't be happier with life in Liverpool. Nine months after moving to Anfield from Udinese, the Italy full-back admits he is content with life in England, describing the city as "perfect". He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's a nice city and it's different to Italy. Here it is quieter and there are more parks. It is a nice type of life. "In Italy there is not a lot of space, but here for example, I can go for a walk with my wife and dog in the park. "I lived in Milan, which is a big city and is busy every day, but here is a more quiet life. "Liverpool is not too big and not too small. It is the perfect city to live in." Dossena has made 25 appearances for the Reds so far this season following his switch from Serie A, but concedes he took some time to adapt to the demands of English football. "When I arrived I didn't understand the language or the football here," he explained. "I found a lot of differences between English and Italian football. "Here there is a higher intensity on the pitch and you have less time to think. "In Italy you have more space, you have more time and the football is not as physical as it is here. "But I have worked each day to adapt to the differences and now it is better for me. I've made progress with my English as well and it's much better than it was at the start of the season. "I can understand what the boss wants from me and I know my teammates much better." The 27-year-old has faced stiff competition for the left-back role from Fabio Aurelio and Emiliano Insua this season, but Dossena feels opposition for places is commonplace at a club of Liverpool's stature. "In every big team in Europe competition is normal, even at the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona," Dossena said. "But I am friends with all my teammates and there is a good atmosphere in the dressing room. "Fabio is a typical Brazilian player with good feet and ability, while Emiliano is young and I have a lot of time for him. I believe he will develop into a great player." Having settled into Anfield life, Dossena could probably not have chosen a better time to score his first goals for the club as the full-back found the back of the net in Liverpool's thumping victories over Real Madrid and Manchester United in March. "It was a beautiful emotion to score my first goal for the club against Real Madrid and the stadium was unbelievable that night," he recalls. "The atmosphere was amazing and to score made me very happy. "However, I prefer the goal against Manchester United because I know about the rivalry between the two teams. "I think the supporters were very happy with that goal. We had not won there for a while and it was probably a more difficult goal to score." And what of the defender's symbolic chest pumping celebrations that followed both strikes? "That was for my wife," he confesses. "We married last June and after just one month we moved to Liverpool. "It was not easy for two young people to move to a different country after only one month of being married. "But she is always there for me when I am not happy or if I have not played well, so I wanted to dedicate those goals to my wife." Link
stressederic Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 He'll probably leave in the summer but I can't say I hold anything against him. He's been working hard in training to improve on his shortcomings, and putting in the extra effort to improve. That's the sort of thing I can appreciate from a player in a new country. He was brilliant away at Fulham as well and should have got a hat trick. Plus lobbing Edwin Van Der Sar at Old Trafford is always the type of thing I will approve of.

Agree with all that - he's not been a 'success', but he's improved a lot of late, is clearly a decent enough player, and despite not being good enough for us, I appreciate the effort he's put in.
