  1. Being unsettled by people's levels of excitement is not the same thing as looking down on other opinions.
  2. At no point have I suggested that Bill Hicks is in any way superior to Star Wars. I said every time I hear someone talking about it I can't help but think of Bill Hicks and that 'Sucking Satan's c**k' riff and nothing more. For what its worth, I always found his misogynistic tendencies deeply problematic. You find it easy to separate the commercial context of its production from your enjoyment of the franchise and that is fine. I don't because I think it embodies so many things I dislike about contemporary capitalism. And again that's fine.
  3. I get and understand that but is there a point for you that the way in which is football is marketed changes the thing you love to the point where you can't enjoy it any more? I try desperately to avoid the marketing of football and a lot of contemporary fan culture (because its just not for me) but I'm finding it increasingly difficult to ignore how something I've spent far too much of my life taking seriously is being changed for the worse by money, the 'commodification' of fan experience and the media culture that has built around it.
  4. I Calling you a prick was wrong but it was born out of frustration with your presumption to know what I think. If you want to know ask. As to the 'Christ Almighty' comment, I'm was genuinely bemused by your reading of my opinions and the rambling line of logic you used to support your arguments. I honestly didn't know where to begin with it. As I previously said my opinion about Star Wars is as follows: I find the manner in which so many people are passively consuming the marketing of a product unsettling. The level of personal investment in a toy making franchise by adults is somethin
  5. Spare me the abuse. You normally seem lie a pretty decent guy but you are behaving like an utter prick
  6. Where on earth did i ever say you were compelled to give it up? Christ almighty.
  7. Must admit I'm surprised at the level of hate being directed towards Hicks. As a comedian I'm pretty much in agreement with Stanley Leisure's take on him. However, that wasn't the point I was trying to make when I posted that link. I find the manner in which so many people are passively consuming the marketing of a product unsettling. The level of personal investment in a toy making franchise by adults is something I find plain odd. I get the idea that watching the movie offers the chance to share an experience with your family or an opportunity to reconnect with your past and they are both
  8. I accept that alright but the level of hype - particularly among middle aged men - is unsettling. Every time I hear someone talking about it I can't help but think of Bill Hicks... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovc-O_z4daQ
  9. Genuinely bemused by the interest in this. The last three were an utter pile of s***e.
  10. Black Mass - When you end up looking at the wigs / makeup in a movie you know its bollix. How long has it been since Depp put in a half-way decent performance?
  11. Baresi described his performance against Italy in 94 as the greatest one he'd ever seen from a centre back . He'll always be Ireland's greatest player for me. Kenny Dalglish tried to sign him for Liverpool in '89. Ferguson sold him for less than Kenny offered. I sometimes wonder what would have happened to the 90s Liverpool if he'd ended up at Anfield. His son was also a youth player with the club.
  12. Origi Sturridge Allen Can's pass for the second goal was a moment of absolute perfection.
