Andoni Iraola started the news conference by giving an update on Bradley Barcola and Cody Gakpo's fitness: "We still need to train. We train this afternoon.

"Barcola was just cramps. We have to evaluate how he is today, but there is no injury. I think he should be available if everything goes normal.

"Cody we will see. We will try today and see if he is ready for tomorrow or if we need to wait until the next one."

Hugo Ekitike still a while away from fitness but Andoni Iraola says he was included in the Champions League squad because there is a chance he could feature in the final two group-stage games.

Watching the presser here, he mentioned January.

Get the win against Fulham tomorrow and then follow it up by beating Spurs in the Milk Cup and it’s really not a bad start to the season at all.

Not fussed about Spurs, but yes.

If we can keep getting home ties in the league cup then it’s a good one to keep ticking along in. Suddenly you can end up in the semis with Wembley on the horizon.

As an aside - Mrs P is a camera operator and she is working at Anfield today - I am more excited about this than she is

Those cameras and cables are heavy. Women have puny, weak muscles. You've missed a trick here*

Flum have pulled a bold move to influence VAR by naming the reigning monarch in their team:

Leno, Castagne, Affengruber, Bassey, Robinson: Berge, King, Charles, Bobb, Gonzalo, Iwobi.
