We’ve spent, or are about to spend, just over £200m on Munoz, Jacquet and Barcola. We’ve sold Curtis for £30m, so let’s say £170m net so far. If we sell Elliott, Bacjetic and Endo, that won’t raise much more than £20m. A right sided forward is likely going to cost a further £60m so we’re either not getting a midfielder or we’re selling Gakpo.

I had a lot of therapy to get to this place, but it can be summarised as such: find someone who likes you enough to always have your back. That should be your main criteria. When I was suddenly single in my mid-30’s, I really struggled with dating. The last time I wasn’t in a relationship before that was around 2001 so the apps were very daunting for a romantic luddite like me. For four years, I’d stumbled in and out of half relationships, gone on dates that went nowhere until I had an epiphany: it’s not necessarily about the relationship you want, it’s the one you need. Years on from that strange period, I’m a happy man. I feel like if I’d somehow managed to have a conversation with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes a couple of years ago, that wisdom could have prevented us from having such a disjointed midfield.

I'd be surprised if Ekitike contributes meaningfully this season. Bradley might but the lad's got a terrible injury record for someone so young.

I blame Hughes for chasing headline-grabbing signings that didn’t fit the team, I blame Edwards for bringing Hughes in to do the things he thought himself to important for and I blame FSG for being sh*t c*nts who, 16 years down the line, still don’t understand football.

Yeah if we weren’t so wide open and weak in the tackle it could have been prevented. I have faith that Iraola can fix some of the tactical issues, I’m actually excited to see that side of things evolve, it’s the personnel that is the big alarm bell innit.

This is true. It's all so badly cobbled together, it's hard to work out what fixes it. I'm sure that Barcola and Minteh improve our attack but Isak is so timid and weak, it might not be the silver bullet we think. The centre back situation is better but both full backs are so terrible that they'll drag anyone near them down to their level. There's 4 supposedly world class midfielders in there but I couldn't tell you what combination of any of them works. I can't wrap my head round any of it.

Yep. Isak seems weak and lost, Wirtz doesn't look up to it, Kerkez and Frimpong are absolute bird-brains. Leoni and Jacquet might be ok, but anything good that Michael Edwards did for us in the past has been completely undermined by bringing in his dingbat mate from Bournemouth. It will take us years to undo this mess.
