When I heard him tell the "pass the pound" story years ago, he was actually proud that the Liverpool boys had the creativity to think of such an amusing game - that and the fact that apparently we could drink any other squad under the table of course..

 

As a side note I know it's not a popular thing to say but now that most fans know these stories about that squad I genuinely don't get the affection that "our Robbie" generates - he was one of the biggest, selfish tw*ts in that team. If he cared about the club half as much as he claims (and is claimed for him..) he and Macca could've taken that team by the scruff of the neck and actually achieved something instead of acting like a bunch of immature kn*bends.

Aye, that's true - I grew up idolising johnny Barnes and apparently even he was acting the tw*t under Evans. It just does my head in really - it's easy to say but we were as good as the Mancs for two seasons (and playing better football while we were at it) and to achieve feck all because they were having competitions to see how many of them could sleep with someones daughter and getting Evans in headlocks just annoys me to distraction.

 

edit - 183 goals is fantastic, but if you can honestly say that Fowler gave his career everything or behaved with total respect for this club and it's staff then you're just plain wrong I'm afraid.

You've certainly got a point, though in mitigation Fowler was:

 

(a) a young, impressionable kid who was let down by others as much as he let anyone else down

(b) ultimately f***ed by serious injuries as opposed to how own lack of professionalism

(c ) not a Cockney.

 

I know, only 183 goals, what an underacheiver.....

 

He was so good though that 183 goals almost is an underachievement.

 

Whether he is to blame for that is another argument, but for whatever reason he never fulfilled the early promise.
