I'm fairly confident that FSG will make a good decision regarding the next man up. They had already identified Klopp as their guy before appointing Rodgers (Klopp as the best emerging talent), and acted swiftly when they found out he was available and open to join us. They also had the right shortlist last time as I see it, with Klopp and Ancelotti. Clearly Klopp was the superior choice, in particular as a fit with Liverpool, but they basically had 2 of the 3 best managers around at the time in the room.
I've been thinking about the profile they will have identified as the next step for a while now. In particular, in Klopp and Guardiola there were two young managers emerging at the same time who were completely disrupting European football with their ideas. There hasn't really been anyone comparable since then, in terms of their wider impact, and everyone plays some kind of Klopp/Guardiola hybrid these days. Will they look for the CEO, or the young and hungry Spanish midfielder? Guess we won't have to wait too long to start getting some actual links as opposed to just bookies odds.
