dodgyscouser Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Had a long conversation about this yesterday with a few lads Is Liverpool v The Scum the biggest football match anywhere? Personally I think it is due to the success and popularity of both clubs and attracts more viewers than any other game world wide, I heard of approx 400million watch it Other games were Rangers v Celtic & Barca v Real
Benzo-13 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) Yep. Agree. Both teams have the support and tradition plus global reach. Edited March 7, 2011 by Benzo-13
Mike Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 most syndicated match coverage in the world, i read somewhere.
Swipe Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yeah a few years back it was on Sky and someone said it was the biggest game in the world in terms of worldwide audience.
Gunga Din Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Barca v Real is bigger. the LFC vs MUFC game is the most watched club game in the world
Lark Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Yep there will be rival liverpool and manc fans the world over watching, from the u.s to australia, the far east, maylasia probably comes to a stand still, norway, the republic of ireland and various towns and cities across europe. Easily the biggest domestic fixture in the world.
madaboutlfc Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 in terms of atmosphere river boca is as big as anything Europe has to offer.. maybe celtic rangers comes close
KentyRed Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I think in terms of sheer numbers I think this is the biggest football game in the world. Even the neutral tunes in for this one.... its always full of drama which keeps everyone watching. Its the only prem game all season I feel sick before. Even the Everton game doesnt do that to me.
_00_deathscar Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Considering that we haven't REALLY been challenging Man Utd on the trophies front (unlike Barca/Real or Celtic/Rangers), it's pretty impressive just how big this rivalry still is worldwide.
Farmer's Tan Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 do we have actual viewing figures,i was trying to get some before but never could.i would think barca/real would be the most watched tbh.
dodgyscouser Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 I don't think there is an actual "official" figure anywhere as the Internet now has loads of sites streaming games on-line which opens up the audience even further nowadays As most of us on here probably watch Barca v Real games, I think a load of their fans also watch us v the scum But I still think us v the scum is the most watched football game over Barca v Real, maybe not by much, but just for the fact that the Prem is probably the most popular league in the world and this is the biggest game in our league
_00_deathscar Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I don't think there is an actual "official" figure anywhere as the Internet now has loads of sites streaming games on-line which opens up the audience even further nowadays As most of us on here probably watch Barca v Real games, I think a load of their fans also watch us v the scum But I still think us v the scum is the most watched football game over Barca v Real, maybe not by much, but just for the fact that the Prem is probably the most popular league in the world and this is the biggest game in our league Not sure about South America or North America, but I'm sure Liverpool vs Man Utd is the most watched in Asia and Australia - the timing works out better. Also, probably Africa too.
Gunga Din Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Boca Juniors v River Plate all well and good, as are loads of the South American derbies, but global audiences? not even in the same league as Us vs the Glams or Madrid v Barca
Gunga Din Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Al Ahly vs Al Zamalik aye, global audience in the squillions that one Linfield Vs Glentoran are we just listing games with a bit of needle now? swansea V Cardiff?
Hassony Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 aye, global audience in the squillions that one Linfield Vs Glentoran are we just listing games with a bit of needle now? swansea V Cardiff? Ipswich vs Norwichscummers vs Pompey to be honest it's only between liverpool vs united and Real vs Barca
Andy @ Allerton Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Don't think it's possible to have a 'biggest football match anywhere'. It depends on which country you are in, who your local rivals are and who each individual team wants to beat more than any other. Although you could say 'for the neutral' - but there are few neutrals in the world of football. Local derbies are always going to be bigger than anything else played anywhere else than some 'big name' game not involving your own team. Fair enough, if you're an armchair and never go to the game, then I can accept that you probably care less than someone that goes week in, week out.
_00_deathscar Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I can't remember which one it was, but I'm pretty sure in one of the seasons (might have been 2008-2009), Liverpool vs Man Utd (can't remember who was at home) took in 1 billion viewers world wide apparently.
Flasher Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 the LFC vs MUFC game is the most watched club game in the world This is the only way you can measure it. As such, it is indeed the biggest club game.
_00_deathscar Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I really don't think Real/Barca is even close to be honest.
