Exactly the type of creative talent we could so do with.

He would not cost the earth, relatively speaking - 10-12 million would go a long way towards getting him.

Our transfer dealings next Summer will be critical - we are likely to be working from a limited budget if the Yanks are still at the helm, so we need to bring in the exact right players to help transform us from title challengers into champions, therby avoiding the unthinkable - no. 19 ending up in Manchester rather than with us.

Arteta is suppoosedly great friends with Xabi, the Spanish contingent would help him to settle in straight away, no re-locating etc involved a la Keane.

I think he would be a fantastic addition.

Thoughts?

We should cherry-pick their best player every summer and get them doing some stewarding or cleaning the bogs at Melwood.

He's not good enough for us. Benayoun offers more from open play and since Arteta's main strength, his set pieces, wouldn't be utilised here with Gerrard/Alonso/Aurelio ahead of him in the queue, he wouldn't offer as much to us as he would Everton.

I'd like it only because of how much it would upset Everton and their horrible fans. As a player and in terms of fitting into our team, I don't really think he'd be of great benefit.

Where does the notion Everton would easily sell him to us for a little over £10m come from?

FWIW I think he's a good player, but struggle to see where he fits in short of being another player moved out wide who does their best stuff inside.

yeah agree. he's another square peg / round hole, like diego would be, or any other supposed hole player. we've gerrard there so leave it alone.

Ironically given recent events, even his set pieces get overhyped. The blues**** actually often whinge about his delivery from corners etc (though he has scored a couple of direct freekicks this year).

he's been pretty average for most of the season. He isn't all that. We already have enough squad players.

Agreed. He stands out at Everton, but he isn't that good.

Our priority for the summer is - still - wide players and a striker.

Everton have two players I'd happily take from them

Jagielka - although we have an abundance of centre halves

Cahill

Arteta would not add hugely, IMO

i prefer pienaar to arteta

If that diving, whining scrote of a s**** of a player comes anywhere nearer our club than playing at Goodison I'll go mental. He doesn't even do anything anyway, just runs into blind alleys, falls over then fouls someone.

are you absolutely mental?

Arteta is about 100 times the player than that diving, talentless s***house Pienaar

And anyway, I don't want any of their t***s. We should unsettle him by making bids like £4m + Voronin, you know, just for laughs.

Personally I think he is that good though its pretty academic anyway, in fact I'd say his influence in midfield is more likely the reason Everton are doing well this season than the ability of Moyes who appears to be creaming off all the credit - quite why escapes me

Yes we still need a wide player and definitely a striker with Keane and Pennant parcelled off in the transfer window, but we are crying out for more creativity, Bennyoun's useful to have and has been playing out of his skin for the last few games but its an important area which I think Benitez undervalues too readily.

Signing Arteta would give me the biggest laugh of the close season but it wouldn't happen for so many reasons

A lot of players look good with other teams but I'm afraid when they go to Liverpool, feel the pressure of expectation they are exposed as just another average player now out of their depth, hiding behind the performance of their captain in the hope that he will bail them out.
