Let's face it. You knew you would when you saw the lineup. It could have been good or bad, and thank God it was good. Think about it.

We learned that Fabio can excel at CM.

We learned that Benny is really starting to be a great squad player.

We learned that Dossena is not bad at all when he has good cover at the back.

We learned that Babel may well be out of here.

We learned that Ngog is no better than an understudy, forever.

We learned that Agger needs to be the first defender written on the team sheet.

We learned that we may well have the best forward in the world on our team.

We learned that we dodged the bullet for sure by not selling Xabi this summer.

agree with most, but harsh on Ngog considering his age and that this is his first start. Also harsh on Babel, as I think he is deployed wrongly by Rafa and consequently his confidence is suffering.

given time and a bit of patience, N'Gog has the potential to do well for us. i ahve to agree about Babel as over the last few games he ahs played for us, he has shown nothing that says he can be a valuable member of the squad.

personally, I like that 3 center back set up as it gives us more options and it allows 1 of the 3 (as long as it isn't Carra!!) to move forward and support the midfield and attack. maybe not every game, but a good idea when needed.

I agree pretty much with everything you said, except for Ngog. I think he has some qualities, and may develop into a useful player.

then where should he be deployed?!?!?!

hes had plenty of chances and played as a striker, right and left winger.........and bar the odd 10 minutes of genius is crap.

We should have learned that the game lasts for 90 minutes and the result is never decided until the final whistle. Reading through the in-game thread this morning though, the Mystic Megs were out in force predicting outcomes based on partial knowledge.

I completely disagree. If he doesn't go down in Liverpool history as a flop, I'll walk naked from my bedroom to my kitchen.

We saw confirmation that our squad is still weak and that Babel is almost a liability. Ngog deserves more time but at this point id happily see Babel sold in the summer.

I thought the 3-5 part of the formation yesterday was pretty good. The front 2 bit of it was where we struggled.

We learned that the squad have footballing brians enough to adapt to different formations

We learned that Pellegrino still has defensive work to do on the training ground

We learned that Portsmouth are bobbins

We learned that Rafa doesn't give a fukc what anybody thinks about him and he will rest 7 players if he feels he needs to.

That was Reading away last season. Difference this time what the formation and the players were spot on, yep there were a few performances that left question marks but the formation worked. Unlike Reading where the formation was a disaster.

This is the most amount of points we've had at this stage of the season since 90/91

The last time we won the league we had 5 less points at this stage of the season

Laudrup? Clough? I didn't know we had them.

Agree with most of that. I tihnk it's too early to be writing off N'Gog. He was out of his depth in the game sure but he's young and new at the club so time will tell. As for Aurelio, I've always been a big fan. I tihnk he'll have a good part to play in our title ambitions. The clubs treatment of Agger is no bloody good... unfortunately it's most likely down to the fact that the owners see a sale in the near future and don't want to waste their money on Aggers signing bonus.

Benayoun really is starting to show his class alright too, finally the people saying that he is average will maybe give him a chance from now on. He's got a lot to do with Gerrard being gone as he is one of our best creative players if you ask me.

Torres is the best striker in the world. That is clear.

what annoys me is the way we threw everything at them to win the game - at 2-2 & on 90 mins, I knew we'd win it, but against Stoke we didn't muster the same passion in 90 mins as we did in any single minute in the last 10.

When we relentlessly attack like that, we are unplayable but so many of our draws this season stem from us trying to pass it in & playing with caution.

f*** the caution - let's go for the jugular

Stoke's barely football. Pompey apply the normal rules of football; their pitch isn't a five-a-side pitch and they have at least a tacit interest in possession, in building attacks, you know, all that football stuff. You can't close down someone who actively wants to hoof the ball into touch every time they get it. United scored very late at Stoke playing against ten men. Stoke are horrible.

We learned that Aurelio should take more free kicks and corners. For the most part they were far better than Gerrard's and Alonso's.

I have to agree and its been bugging me for so long why Gerrard takes our corners.

He is such an attacking threat either in the box or sitting just outside it ready to pounce on any balls that come back out.

Gerrard is basically our 2nd striker and I think if he didn't take the corners, he would at least get anther 3-5 goals a season.

It's about time Gerrard was told to stop taking corners. 75 percent of the time he rifles the ball in about chest high. He would be far more use on the edge of the penalty area picking up seconds. As for N'gog, he will never be more than a squad player at Anfield.

I am doubtless in a minority of one here but I DON'T think that our squad is as strong as Rafa makes out it is....
