Amongst all the Barry/Keane frenzy, he's been almsot forgotten - he's a pretty major signing, given that he's our most expensive defender ever, and Chelsea aside, one of the most expensive full backs ever in the prem.

He's also got a pretty big role to play, if Rafa's hints about the full backs providing our width are anything to go by.

So is he any good? I've seen no pre-season games until last night, and last night showed one flash of him, a run that led to a corner, and I've not seen him play in Italy. Given Aurelio's injury record and Insua's inexperience, we can probably expect to see a lot of him.

I like the look of him, he has been a bit off the pace during pre season but we have seen glimpses of what he is about, I do think he may take a wee while to settle into the club.

I don't think we'll see too many good things from him defensively so he'll have to produce going forward which he looks capable of. Looks a bit of a tank though, should knock a few over.

Looks quick to me, will add something going forward.

Positioning looks a bit suspect so far.

Exactly my thoughts. I was surprised at how big Insua is too. I;ve seen him play a couple of times but it never struck me before. He is a solid lad.

I think the long diagonal ball from Dossena to the right wing is going to be a feature of our season.

Kuyt should work on his control in that case

in the youtube clips and a few times in pre season he's been the farthest player foward,as soon as we tune into that i think he'll chip in with a fair few goals

5 goals in about 160 games suggest not

I think all our full-backs have looked very dodgy at some pooint so far in pre-season. Part of it, i think anyway,is that they've been left horribly isolated at times. From the looks of it, Rafa wants to play with wide players in fairly advanced positions, but if the full-backs aren't going to get further up the pitch we're going to be leaving huge spaces for teams to exploit.

Dosenna looks a good player though, seems to have lovely technique, strong and a bit of pace.

Dossena looks quick, strong, aggressive, and has a good left foot on him - I think he'll do really well here.

Insua is very capable back up as well and I think could become our first choice full back in a few years. And then of course we have Aurelio to keep the physios busy and occupy a number on the squad list.

Not too much I hope; it'll be like having Ruddock back.
