What a striker; Batistuta in his pomp at Fiorentina was one of the finest you'll ever see and his record speaks for itself.

He used to be my favourite player, even bought an Argentina shirt with his name on the back...

The finest goalscorer of his generation, could do it all.

Great Wu Tang soundtrack here too.I love the goal where he pulls it down off his chest and wellies it,fantastic goal,as is the one where he flicks it over the defender's head.

Bang on the money Leo, Batistuta used to score 20+ goals a season in Serie A when it was the top league in the world, year in, year out.

Along with Klinsmann, i had him down as the best goalscorer/finisher of the 90s.

318 goals in 519 games in his overall professional career, including 56 in 78 internationals. Incredible.

As Sydney said, Serie A was definitely the toughest league to score goals in back then as well, which makes his record even more amazing. He was loyal to Fiorentina for a long time as well, until leaving for Roma in the twilight of his career to practically win the league on his own with them in his first season there.

A lot to admire about the man otherwise as well; he was a great professional and a family man who is still with his wife whom he met when they were just 15.

Him, Shearer and Romario were definitely the best strikers of the 90s. phenomenal players.

Not entirely sure he was better than either of them though.

And Klinsmann...

I always remember him saying in interviews that he didn´t like football and that he was looking forward to being a farmer in his homeland. That was very confusing for a football-obsessed 10 year old like me.

Batistuta, not Klinsmann.

Great striker indeed. Powerful and deadly. Fiorentina faced a near revolt when he was sold.

Indeed - they have a bronze statue of him in Florence!

Think Roma actually paid not far off £30m for him when he was about 31, which is just an incredible amount of money at that age. He won them the title though, so I suppose you could say it was worth it...
