Guehi is also a leader and an organiser on the pitch, with far superior positional knowledge. Konate is big and strong and plays with Virg. Honestly, I think Konate would look bang average if he was playing for Palace instead. I've watched him enough to know what his strengths are. No worries. No point talking about it then cos I completely disagree.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I like Konate and I like Guehi. But one wants to sign for us and the other doesn’t. 8

Leoni, if he progresses as he should, would be more of a Konate replacement.

DanWM Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I half-watched Real last night and was thinking, I wouldn't feel all that confident in a pairing of Konate and Huijsen if it were us. Requires loads of leadership from Konate, which we haven't seen much from him.

He and Virgil have great chemistry and Ibou's strength, tackling, pace and arial power make him into a great defender (when he's fit). I'm not decrying Guehi, I haven't seen enough of him but I'm sure we could accommodate him as well as and not instead of. Well yeah having both would be lovely. Konate might stay fitter if he was played slightly less. But then would Leoni's progress suffer, I'd say it would. All moot because we probably can't afford to (or wouldn't want to) pay the salary of both Konate and Guehi. It's probably doubly moot as Konate seemingly doesn't want to sign a new contract. 1

Ah, don't give up so easily Being honest, my views on Konate are not extreme, but certainly out of step with most, and I recognise that. I don't rate him, for my own reasons and and stand by them. Either way, Liverpool seem not to want to give him a bumper contract which I think is also telling, and he clearly rates himself very highly and / or, Like Trent, has no interest in actually staying. I don't think Konate will be in the starting 11 next season. I'm not sure many would disagree with that based on the current situation and the fact we tried to sign Guehi (even though I think Guehi is Virgil's long term replacement).
