Could the trouble that happened at Brum derby happen at a Merseyside derby ?

Would be interested in people's views on this, especially Kev from a stewards perspective.

no - it's getting a bit more vitriolic but we're a million miles away

anyway they probably feel sorry for us now

Cheers. Solely because there isn't quite as much vitriol between the fans as there evidently was last night, or does better policing/stewarding also contribute ?

through the years, we've sat together without much more than the odd snarl

getting less so now because of the ticketing but it's a cultural thing rather than how it's policed

yes, don't think it's there yet by any stretch but give it time and the right circumstances....

i've sat amongst Evertonians in the Anny Rd end and the following season was in the Liverpool section right next to them and it's pretty unpleasant, up close, on both sides

[should say - the Villa/Brum thing the other night wasn't that bad in the grand scheme of things - goading pushed slightly beyond it's limits - it wasn't Millwall v Luton 1985]

Villa and Brum have had periods of times being in different leagues too. Maybe adds to the fervour and aggressive anticipation of these games (same with Newcastle & Sunderland).

Was thinking the same. The only way I can think of something like happening is if Liverpool are trying to win the league and Everton manage to win an end-of-season-game to damage our prospects and only then if they are a really really poor side battling relegation. Otherwise, I cant see them or us ever storming a pitch.

That would never happen at Anfield.

The steward operation at Anfield is bettered than no-one. You can call us jobworth's or reckon the orange coat stops us getting hit etc etc etc but we are good.

I watched the game and what happened on the pitch and my first thought was "How did the club let that happen". To let so many fans on the pitch like that doesn't sit right with me.

All the clubs and the police forces share intelligence about fans and how they behave, which is why there are different catagories for each match ( A, B, C) With A being least risk etc.

Birmingham are reknown for being pitch runners and for fighting with stewards.

We know what supporters will stand during the game, and will cause trouble. Believe or not Man United supporters are one of the best behaved in the away end at Anfield, and Everton are the worst.

However saying that, personally the worst ones for me were Middlesbrough a good few years ago. Totally brain dead the whole lot of them, I would have got more sense from a cage of monkeys. Also Sheffield United in that Semi-Final was a tough one.

When Championship teams come to Anfield, its as if their fans need to prove something. Birmingham to me are still a Championship team along with their fans.

But back to the point about happening at Anfield.

Stewards ring the pitch at the end of both halves and there is only a few feet between each steward. If we have intelligence that there could be an invasion then the police boost the stewards. I cannot believe for one instance that the Birmingham police and the club did not have one iota that an organised pitch invasion was on the cards, and that was it was - organised. At best BCFC was negligent or at worst they knew about it and did nothing but lip service.

During the year we have joint training exercises with all the emergency services and the council to re-enact pitch invasions, bomb threats, even plane crashes so we know exactly what we have to do if something happens.

We have had one or two pitch runners at Anfield which can happen, but in general no-one gets on the pitch at Anfield apart from those who should be on it (Konchesky excluded).

I am actually proud to be a Liverpool Football Club Steward, because I know we are the best, we are not perfect, but we are the best.

Goading pushed slightly beyond it's limits?

They were throwing a flare between them!

Thanks for the post.

How do you find the international fans coming over for an CL/UEFA CUP game? Best behaved? Worst?

Thats at least one thing we're the best at under the current manager. Things arent that bad on the pitch as being made out by some people! ;)

Best post you've ever made,Kev. Really interesting,that.

Watching it at the time,I was wondering how the hell the stewards and bizzies let that happen.

Like you say,it's not Birmingham's lot don't have history for this sort of thing in this fixture.

i used to work as a steward at chelsea/ wembley stadium few years back, and we absolutely had no training whatsoever

we would have been clueless if there was any kind of emergency at all
